4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

Ok so its my turn to ask the questions that have probably been asked before....

How high can you go with lift before the LR UCAs run out of adjustment? Right now I'm running stock springs, billys set at 1.75 and a 1in spacer, is it possible to set the 5100s up to the 2.50 position.

I wanted to get rid of the spacer and get FJs coils but I don't think it will give me as much lift as I want.

If I'm not mistaken it's 3" before you HAVE to change anything else really. I'm sure someone smarter will chime in soon. :)

I don't like 895's for stock weight (i.e. no aftermarket rear bumpers/tire carriers, fridge, or drawer systems). They are too stiff IMO. They are ~45% stiffer than stock where the Superflex coils are 10% stiffer. If you want a middle of the road, look into Icon or All Pro coils, they are 15%-20%. I wouldn't go with anything over 20% unless there as a constant weight in the rear such as the stuff I mentioned. .

With the OME I find the issue is more the damper than the spring. The OME nitro sport rear damper has valving to control heavier loads. The initial valving is very firm. The 895 is a great spring but damper selection is key. With OME nitro sport and no load they are rough, with load they control excellent. With bilstein 5100 they are more comfortable when unloaded, never tried loaded I am now running the Fox dampening adjustable rear rear shocks. Great on control when loaded and good ride quality when not loaded.

Thanks....I thought adjustable UCAs allowed more than 3in.

The issue being CV angle not alignment. I wish we had a cheaper way to get 4-5". I stuck to 3" to prevent busting CV's.

Oh I see...I'm not looking at busting cv axles either, do you think my current lift it too much? 5100's set to 1:75 with the 1in spacer

You would need long-travel CV axles up front, and there's only one company that makes 'em. Cost is around $1200 for the pair. Not sure how much additional lift those would allow.

Not sure there high enough on my priority list right now but maybe one day. Are there members that have then? or at point is it just more worth it to SAS

Hey there guys....looking for a day star kit for my 2004 t4r zz4x4 but on the website they only list 2010+? Will these fit my 04?

OK so I bit the bullet and got the lift kit. Went with the 5100s all around and unfortunately didnt pay attention to the forums and matched them with the OME 884 and 895Es. Somehow I forgot that the Es are exactly the same spring rate as the 895s only shorter. So now I have a perfectly level car with no weight, which rides pretty stiff in the bac... and once I add weight I have a nose high car that rides a bit better. So I wanted to get some feedback as to running the superflex rears with one of the airbag systems. Either the airlift or firestone... that way I think I would have a great DD and a very capable expedition vehicle for every once every 3 months it gets loaded up. What do you think!?

Here are some pics of the ride. 2007 4R Limited, but its a south american edition so there are a few differences.

Trd cal - those angles don't look too bad. Just keep an eye on them.

Toyota4 - zero cv issues at my current height.
