I don't know if you were able to order your FJ springs yet or not but if you need some springs to save for the suspension set up you really want like myself I have my OEM springs and they are in great condition ..if it helps they are yours if you want them brotha
Actually I went today and bought some FJ coils and the isolators for $50 at the scrap yard. Hopefully will put them in this weekend. Thanks though!

No problem man, I started thinking don't I have a set of springs in the garage and low and behold here they are! I should have rememberd sooner I would have just shipped them to you, sorry man.

But thats rad you scored for 50 bucks on top of that there being a FJ to scrap from.Good job man now get rid of that doo doo diaper saggin ass.

You know I've never seen a 4th Gen or FJ at any junk yard within 75 miles of me
and there being 6 or 7 that I go to atleast twice a month ...they don't exist here

But I can get parts for my 3rd gen all day long at any of them and some land cruiser parts.

I was surprised. There are 2 Fj's there, 5 or 6 Tacoma's, couple 3rd Gen 4runner, and several 1st Gen Tundra and sequoia. Almost all of them were missing front coils and suspension parts. Was eyeballing some Tundra coils, but I'm pretty sure they don't fit.

Damn ...so thats where all the toyotas go before off the heaven.lol
Funny is that they fit on a 3rd gen.go figure
They were all really battered and torn apart too. Looked like some sort of Toyota apocalypse! Lol I did however see a rear-end in one of those Tundra... Would be nice to upgrade to that beefy 10.5"! Lol

Hey everyone, pretty new to the forums but I've had a blast reading through everything. Recently got an 04 with 98k miles. I've been looking into the lifts everyone does because the stock height of the 4th gen for me is ugh. Anyways my question is, anyone know if a 2015 tundra adjustable 5100 strut would fit an 04 4Runner? I used the search but could not find anything, & I figured that's because it's a late model tundra. Thanks!

So I've been looking at all the options to lift my truck and there are a lot. I was going to get the Toytec boss kit, but then I saw that they now have that kit with 2.5 coil-overs. From what I've read they are re-branded sway a ways and are pretty solid. However, once you factor in shipping from Toytec, the price difference between that kit and an Icon Stage 1 kit isn't very much. Which kit would y'all recommend? is it worth the extra money for the Icon? Is it even better than the Boss kit with the 2.5s?

I'm considering the same and disappointed that you haven't gotten a response ... so I'm bumping it. Don't suppose you've gotten any PM's?

Never heard any advice, so I went with the toytec branded swayaways. Ie, the boss kit with the 2.5 coilovers

I'm leaning the same way ... I've heard such good things about Icon, but I'm not sure that (on paper anyway) that stage 1 matches up against the boss 2.5.

Question...

Stacking...

So I'm running a Rancho 2.5" quick lift which seems to have lifted my truck a little under 2.5"... I still have some spacers for the front that could, theoretically, lift my truck to a total of 3.5".

Would anyone advise against that? Of course, if I were to do this, I would do the transfer case drop.

Would a body lift at this point be a better option? Just do something small like a 1" kit or 1.5" BL kit?

Do you have after market uca's? If not then don't go above 3"of suspension lift as you can't get alignment specs inline.
I'm not sure if the transfer case drop is required, will need somebody with experience in that to chime in.
How big of tires are you wanting? You should be able to clear 285's fairly easy with what you have. Might need to lose the front mud flaps and pull the liner forward, but that's it. If you want bigger tires, go much bigger! I have 35's, 5" of total lift and I've trimmed like crazy to fit them. I need another inch to clear better. You can get bigger body lifts than 1.5" from 4crawler and some of the guys in here too if needed. I have 2.5" body lift on mine.

thanks for the input t-man! I don't have UCA's yet, recommend any specific brand?

Well, I've got stock SVT raptor wheels at home laying around that I wanna try (315x75(70?)Rx17's???)... built a front bumper, removed the fender liners so removing the front flaps won't pain me too much lol. I suppose I'll just get .5" billet spacers and run a BL to fit them...?

ANYWAYS, I appreciate the input, Ill ask about a T case drop. Maybe ill just be patient and buy a long travel kit haha.

My pleasure!
Camburg or total Chaos seem to be preferred, although many are using spc light racing arms, including me. There is also a recent thread about eBay arms. Somebody is selling some on there for pretty cheap that seem good for the most part but often you need to use a washer at the bushings to make it the right size. Look up the thread for eBay control arms.
For those tires, that's what I have (315/70-R17) you will need to do lots of trimming and fitting. You have to do the body mount chop, which is very simple, then you will need to trim the plastic behind the front tires down to metal about 1.5 feet up from the bottom to expose your pinch weld. Then you will need to get a BFH and pound that sucker flat and back about an inch. I would suggest a 10lb! Lol. You will also need to trim the front bumper right in front of your front tires so they don't hit it, and your rear bumper where your mud flap used to be, yes it goes too. After that you just fine tune everything as needed. I got sick of trimming on my liner on the drivers side and just ripped it out recently. Passenger side has the air intake in there, so do your best to keep some protection from water splashing there, although if you hit puddles fast enough it'll go in there. Bad design.
You won't need a t-case drop unless you go above 3" of suspension lift. I don't remember how far above that, but I know you are fine with 3" and down.
Oh, and a spacer above your Rancho quick lifts shouldn't be an issue either if you go that route.
Now, for long travel! You will definitely need a 1.5" or bigger body lift to clear 35's because the tire goes up so far!
Synopsis, it can be done and really isn't hard. Time consuming but fun in my opinion.

Is there a way to do a quick ballpark alignment after lifting so the vehicle is driveable till I get it to the alignment shop?

How far is it? It is less than 10 miles to mine and I just drove it. You can look at stuff and try to pull it in straighter, usually pretty basic, but it shouldn't destroy anything for a short drive. I didn't notice anything drastic on my big MT tires, although I could hear the tires squeal on corners. lol
Mine was really far out!

I'll probably have to drive at least 50 miles after the lift. Don't care about the tires as after the alignment I'm putting my new ones on, but I don't want to stress the suspension too much.

ICON Stage I

Just installed an ICON Stage I lift on my 05 Sports Edition 2WD - which just turned 48k on the odometer. The quality of the ICON components is impeccable and the ride quality is close to stock, but a bit 'stiffer' than stock. Steering response feels a bit 'lighter/looser' compared to pre-lift steering feel, primarily at highways speeds, but I anticipate that as the new springs and coil-overs settle and the suspension is re-tuned, the ride and steering feel will only improve. I suspect the difference in steering feel may be associated primarily with the fact that fatigue of the original springs altered the alignment geometry resulting in a 'heavier/tighter' steering feel vs. the ICON setup.

Before the lift installation, the front had sagged sufficiently that the tires were rubbing occasionally under certain combinations of bumps, turns, and suspension travel. Now, with 265/70/R17 Nitto TerraGrappler G2 tires on 17" x 9" AE Alloy 023 Series Wheels (-5mm offset/4.75" backspace) I have detected no rubbing issues of any kind - and that's with mudflaps and fender liners left intact. I'm certain that if larger tires were paired with these wheels, or if these tires were paired with a wheels having a more negative offset, then some rubbing would be more likely up front.

As it stands, the tire/wheel combo extends outward approximately 2" more than the stock wheels and tires and I'm very happy with the look. Further, I don't expect too much drop in MPG having gone up only one tire size in profile from 265/65/17 to 265/70/17. Also don't expect excessive speedometer error with this setup, but I'll report back after I've put some 500 miles or so on it. This could take a few months, however!

In the meanwhile, I'll take some additional pics, post any new observations, and answer any questions you might have about my build project. Thanks to all of you who posted detailed information that helped me make my build decisions!!!
