2004 V8 Sport Lift Questions

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and 4runners in general. Last week i picked up a 2004 V8 sport with 135k.

I dont know much about suspensions so I apologize if I sound like an idiot, but I was trying to piece together a lift kit and am looking for some input.

I am looking to get about 2-3 inches of suspension lift, w/ an additional ~1 in body lift in the front.

Would the following set work? Am I missing anything (extended brake lines etc.)?

Hi all,

Yes your setup will work, how well, who knows? You're a couple hundred away from a tubular stage 2 Icon full kit, just step up [emoji12]

Can the lift with these coils be adjusted, or is it a certain height? If so, what is the height?

does a daystar 2.5/1.5 lift yield basically the same lift as a 2.5/1.5 spring lift?

I alway thought they looked good with the tire size i want...

I am getting 265/70/17 ko2s.. and I am def getting Bilstein shocks.. i am torn on my spring combo though..

its either Wheeler's T1 (1.75-2inch) on the front and T12 (1.5 inch) in the rear

or eibach 2.5 front and T12 1.5 in the rear..

or eibach 2.5 front and toytec 2 inch in the rear..

The better question is what do you want out of the lift. Just pure aesthetics or better off-road performance?

ideally.. both... I'm shallow first though.. you will see on my build page.. haha.. i like the vehicle to look clean and capable.. OEM plus I'd describe it..


I think the vehicle is neutered in its stock form for its drivetrain.. it looks low compared to other similar SUVs.. the suspension is def getting replaced.. i have a cargo box built into the back.. i don't think its overly heavy but something to think about..

I want it to look right.. and after I go through the 265s.. i probably won't be daily driving it and I could go 275/285s..

Well, the front Bilsteins tend to be fine, but the rear's are shit if you're doing off-roading. Obviously people have had fine experiences offroading with the 5100s, but I've snapped two already, and I definitely am NOT a hardcore offroader. ARB/OME Nitrochargers all the way. They're just a little bit more expensive.

Daystar will even be fine for light offroad, but you'll want a proper spring setup to complement the shocks for anything more than that.

I've gone through this thread and the lift/tire pic sticky thread. There are a lot of opinions and I'm getting lost in the details and pros/cons of spacers and new coils and shocks.

The front struts are bad on my 07 with 100k miles. I figured while the front end was torn apart I'd add a little lift to it.

Here is my wish list:
- Not to sacrifice ride comfort too much as this is a daily driver
- No more than a 3" lift because the wife will still drive it
- Light off-roading

I had stopped at a shop and got a quote for work using the 3" Bilstein lift coils kit. I want to run a 265/70/17 tire as well. I know these are adjustable. Some of the comments have said they didn't like the ride or quality of these parts. I don't know if some preferred a stiffer ride or these were too stiff. With these vehicles having a shorter wheelbase, I'd rather not bounce all over the place.

I stop back at the shop tomorrow evening to see if the cam bolts are frozen. If they are then I'm screwed with needing to divert some funds to that instead of a better lift kit.

Any suggestions?

I went with MOOG FJ springs in front and back. Bilstein 5100s with the front perch up on the .85 mark (first notch) and the same tires as you. ride is firmer but competent. IT IS NOT PLUSH. but acceptable. drives great, aligns fine.

I put the same set up on my 07 sport and the rear springs didn't seat well at all. I ended up with the same rake I had with the stock suspension. I want to replace the rear springs to level it out. What 4runner springs will level it with the front 5100s at the .85 and FJ coils?

So, I've gathered a lot of information here. Just a few more questions. I think i've decided on 885/5100's in the front. Toytec superflexs in rear. I want to be able to run 285/70/16's. Will this settle for a level 3 inches of lift? And i'm also doing front bumper. Is this a good lift plan for that weight addition?

In the same position as to being confused on what lift combo to use. Please let me know the best combo you know about guys as I'm just a novice here.
Trying to get a 3" lift for medium rate off-roading and daily driving.
Considering up to 33" tires.
Looked through this forum and getting more confused as to what the best combo is.
I'd like to maintain the comfort so open to spending a bit more if needed.
Shipping this baby out to Africa for a project i'll be working on so need to make sure the build is done right the first time.

If you like the way the factory suspension rides, this won't affect that and it still rides great. I have a lot of guys where it's their wifes truck and they just want to make it look a little meaner for a nice price. She won't even know it's on there when she's driving it

Getting ready to swap out my xreas/spacer lift to an actual coil over/shock lift. Been looking at Toytec. What's the most comfortable for a daily driver? Ultimate vs Boss? Other options? I'm at 175k now.

Is this a common occurance? couldn't find anything on this subject, but worried now since I'm just about to order a set.

I just put on 5100s at all 4 corners (fronts set to 0) and OME 884 springs in the front. I have RAS on my 04 4x4 V8, and with the 275/70 R17 BFG KO2s there is no rake. I haven't seen anything else on this issue, and I really hope it stays that way. This shock-snapping business better not happen to me!

So far the ride is awesome - my X-REAS and/or front springs must've been shot and I didn't know it. May have been original parts @164,000 when I replaced. Many thanks to ARK for this thread... he basically made my decisions for me!

I want to swap the RAS for rear coils sometime this summer, probably OME 895e or 895. Has anyone performed this kind of "transplant"?
