4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

It's about time for a new set of tires on my 4Runner and I have considered adding some more aggressive looking tires as well as a lift/level.

It's 100% stock now and I don't want anything too major, just looking to make it look a little tougher as it's got some age on it now. It's my daily driver and is 99% commuter vehicle, I rarely take it off road.

If I get a daystar, will that make a big difference in appearance/performance? I don't want anything to make it drive worse or less stable. What else is involved?

Also, any recommendations for tires that look a little more AT, but are a road tire and I can still get 50k on?

Also, note the I have never touched the stock suspension, so if that is something that will be needed - maybe I should just switch that out now?

I appreciate all of your guys input and info. I’m freshly new to the off roading scene and I am overloading myself with the amount of information on suspension. Just when I think I’ve made my mind up, a new suspension set up comes up that I never even thought about.

I have a 2008 V6 4x4 limited with XReas. I am looking to replace the suspension. I don’t really plan on doing any real off-roading, mostly city driving and some camping/trails. I don’t plan on going crazy with larger tires either because I don’t want to lose too many mpgs. I would like a nice leveled raised look but also want it to eat up bumps on the road and be comfortable but not have too much body roll in the corners. I would like to avoid replacing UCAs so I’m thinking of just lifting about 2 in the front and 1 in the back. I don’t really carry all that much gear on the regular, I travel pretty light. I’m also concerned about rusting as I live in the northeast. Looking to spend between 1-2k installed. I was leaning towards a Dobsinson 2"/1" set up.

Thanks

After a lot of back and forth for a couple weeks between Bilstein, Icon, Dobinsons. I paid a visit to Slee Off Road to pick up my new suspension lift from OME. It will be going in tomorrow! Extremely exited

The “X-REAS delete...” thread linked in my sig may be helpful. The setup I ended up with is pretty sweet off the pavement too.

Could use some help dudes. I have read everything and still a but confused. I have a 07 sport v6 with xreas, I installed a daystar leveling kit a few years back but I plan to rip out the xreas since it’s leaking.

Here is where I’m confused: i have basically boiled it down to 2 options:

A: bilstein 5100 all around with upgraded springs.

B: toytec 3” lift kit

I’m confused because they toytec kit would cost almost double. What exactly am I paying for here? Wouldn’t buying the 5100s with springs separately accomplish the same result?

I apologize in advance if these are noob questions. I’m so tired of researching!

You are correct. However the Toytec kit comes with the diff drop, nice aluminum top hats and assembly. But you can still save a bit by piecing it together, I did.

These are not noob questions at all sir! I work at toytecs and you can shoot me a message with any questions you have. You can even give me a call at toytec (303) 255-4959 ext 113 with any questions. So if you piece everything together on our site with just the parts its actually almost the same price but the toytec kit will be fully assembled for you read to just pluck the old ones out and put the new ones in.

Would love to see pics of your final product. I'm still in the hunt for my suspension so I'm curious to see how yours turned out.

It drives way better than stock. This is with only the front done So far. I installed the rear a couple days ago but don’t have pics yet

If I put 2.5 spacer lift with taco shocks/springs, and added a 130 lb extra weight in the front, would it sag below 3"?

lift options

currently I have a 05 sport with 3 in toytec spacers and spc control arms on 33s. picked up toytec ultimate coilovers and toytec rear springs for 550 and orders icon rear shocks. I am wondering if I will gain any lift, and curious on any reviews on the coilovers and shocks.

Take measurements before and after so you’ll know for sure. Measure from the floor to the middle of the fender opening. The difference you will notice is the ride quality, it’ll be night and day!

Here she is in all her glory. The OME set up got put through some serious abuse these past couple days and they’ve held up extremely well. I am impressed at how they eat up the impact off road. We had a family emergency while on a trail yesterday and we headed down a little faster than we should’ve, hit some rough spots that would’ve completely destroyed the stock set up we used to have. 10/10 for OME.

Looks great! Did you do the 3" lift or the low lift 2" package? Also, what size tires are you running?

I did the 3” package, the rear springs are rated for medium load since we off road a lot but rarely pack heavy

threw in 5th gen (2018 off road) suspension, and a 1" daystar spacer in the front. thinking i need to put in a rear spacer, since im slightly prerunner stance with the front being 1" higher than rear.

will the 4th gen daystar rear spacer (KT09127BK) fit? i think all the rear springs (4th gen vs 5th gen vs FJ are same at the top)

I have read through this forum and many more for days now. I feel like I won't know until I do it but I'd feel a little more confident with some opinions. As this forum has over 200 pages its hard to see if my question is answered exactly. Without further ado I'm looking to lift my 4th Generation 4Runner Sport. Right now I have stock everything for weight reasons. I will be traveling with a rooftop tent and camping gear in the back but nothing that just throws tons more weight.

I hit up Utah and 4x4 with stock gear but am looking to add bigger tires. I just bought the Blisten 5100 lift kit. BIL24-239370 and BIL33-187174

I'm looking for a 2"/1" lift I believe for some BF Goodrich AT tires. I'm now stuck with what springs to go with. I was gonna pull the trigger on the 884 for front and 895e for back. Wondering will that level it out with a 2/1? Will the ride be rougher? What setting should I put Blisten 5100 at with those springs? Or should I ditch the spring ideas and go with something else.

I found some info on the ratings below and it's making me question my original thoughts.

It should be closer to a 3/2 lift with new springs, those lift heights are for "stock" or new height. Keep that in mind. I have essentially the same set-up, and that is what I got. If you use the OME (which I would) set the front to "0" and it should be close to level. And the ride is a little stiff but not bad at all, wife doesn't complain... much.

Improving ICON VSC Low Speed Compression Frequency..

The HSC is fine but the frequency of the LSC is causing the rear to wallow? Is there a shim stack fix or do i need to go with a shock with a more linear curve?
