Tires rubbing on sway bar

I just installed a toytech 3inch lift kit and SPC UCAs on my 04 and when I turn the wheel to full lock I can feel them rubbing significantly on the front sway bar. I am currently running 265/70 BFG ko2, I had these before I installed the lift and O never experienced any issues with rubbing on the sway bar. I haven't had an alignment yet and i'm wondering if any one else has had this issue and if I need spacers to fix the problem.

Ill try..but i have more of an understanding of suspension from MTBs and Motos then cars/trucks but i think the fundamental bits are applicable in theory.

So what their saying is that the bilstein is digressive meaning its valved to become softer as the shock progresses thru its stroke. The OME springs/struts is linear or progressively sprung/valved meaning it gets harder as they progress thru their stroke in order to carry additional weight beyond OE amounts for bumpers and such.

So by combining a digressive strut with a linear/progressive spring you're going in opposite directions when you want to pair digressive with digressive and linear with linear so the rebound/compression/frequencies are similar throughout the struts/shocks stroke and the coils travel.

If your set on going the bilstein route pair them with digressive coil springs. You might have to check with the dealer/manufacturer to find out if the springs are digressive or not though. Other wise you might look at OME or Dobinson linear struts/shocks. Not sure if this helps ....

You probably need a sway bar relocate. Can be found on toytec website

Ive read hundreds of posts here with mixed answers and all slightly different lift results.
I was wondering if someone could give me some advice here.

I just purchased a 2005 4Runner Sport v8 with 59k miles.
It has Xreas currently so i opted for the toytec 2.5” spacer in the front and 1.5” lift in the rear
Front hub center to fender is measuring 21.25”
Rear Hub center to fender is measuring 22.25”

My question is this.
Planning on getting the SCS Ray 10 in 17x8.5 with -10 offset so i was curious what size tires i could fit without tons of rubbing issues
275/70/17 in the BFGoodrich KO2 is only offered in E rating so I’d like to step up to the 285/70/17 C rated Duratrac if possible but not if its going to require a body mount chop.

Also Would there be an advantage for me to go to the -38 offset wheels?

Thank you

With that mild of a lift and -10 with 285’s you’re gonna have to chop the mount. It sounds like a bigger deal than it is. Any shop that isn’t trying to gouge you should only charge about $30 to do it. If you’re unwilling then consider smaller tires, I’m not sure if 275’s will fit as I’ve never run them. I have the Ray 10’s in the -38 and 285 AT3W’s and they took quite a bit of work to make them fit.

Ok, just looking for suggestions and there is just too many options/combos. Here is what I have: 06 4 runner sport that I will be deleting the Xreas system. It is a v6 2wd. It has daystar 2.5/1.5 that I would like to remove but keep the height at 2.75 all the way around. I do have a bit of driver lean. I am running 275/65r18 duratracs. I rarely off road but do pull a boat at about 2800-3000lbs. The truck has 175k on everything original except the LCA/UCA/Stabilizer/sway bars up front. Would like to replace shocks springs that will give me a good ride while towing and give like 2.75 lift. Thoughts?

I would just do a OME lift kit with soft valving shocks for a nice daily! Let me know if you have any questions! Anthony at Toyteclifts here and we always have special deals for forum members!

Should have mentioned that this is more of a weekend utility ride. Ride quality is important but more so when pulling. Would this change your recommendation? Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

What 2.5" suspension lift kit combination should I get while retaining quality ride for my 08 SR5 and to fit 265/70R17 tires without rubbing issues?
Will it require sway bar relocation kit?
Will it require longer sway bar link if not installing sway bar relocation kit?

Expert advice please!

Thank you and more power...

You can fit 265/70/17 without a lift BTW and you won't have rubbing issues. Did you mean 285s?

General recommendations are the Toytec/Boss lift, yes get a sway bar relocate, longer sway bar links or disconnectable sway bar links are far more expensive than a relocate.

Sway bar relocating bracket and longer links together or can be either of the two?
I want get 2.5" lift kit too that will not compromise ride quality, what front and rear combination should i get?

Thank you Gentlemen!!!

Anthony, I have a 07 4x4 with stock everything. I know I need to update my shocks & coils and probably swaybar links. I don't do any offroading or towing. It's my daily driver and may go on fire roads in the summer. I want some lift and leveling so it sits up higher and feels less like a station wagon. Would you recommend that same OME lift kit with soft valving? If so, does it require any other mods like I've read about (diff drop, relocates)? Or, can I just buy that kit and install and go (plus alignment)?

Just my 2 cents...if you don't mind lightly used parts, check out how I handled upgrading my suspension. Everything I needed cost me all of $200 so even if you're not comfortable doing the work, you're still way ahead. I've had those components on since December 2018 and they're golden on and off the pavement plus it just about leveled the front and rear.

Whatever you decide to do, find a local club and see if you can ride shotgun with someone who runs the same setup you're looking at. Even some garage talk about it and a ride around the block is better than blindly shelling out a lot of money on something you can't return if the ride or handling isn't to your liking.

So I just picked up an 06 V8 non-sport 4runner and am looking into lift kits. I have a buddy at work who has the sport and he installed the King Complete Kit in his and thats what he recommends, is this too much for the weekend warrior type? Would I be better off going for something closer to this guy? I want to get into some overlanding and such in the future and I definitely want to armour up the truck so I am trying to think ahead for weight and all, though I will probably try and go aluminum for the plates. I also am not sure I can really shell out 4+ grand for the lift and install any time soon and kind of want to get this ready to roll for the fall season here.

Am I better off saving up the money for the badass lift or will the $1000 one suffice?

Lots of arguments can be made both ways. King is well, the king in this arena. However, I installed the Toytec Ultimate lift about 4 years ago now. I have had zero issues and have been happy with the performance on and off road. If all you plan on doing is over landing (camping and such) and not serious rock crawling or driving fast in the desert on washboard roads and whoops, the toytec will suffice. If you’re going to do armor any time soon, get the upgraded springs from the get go and save on labor down the road.

I got standard 600lb springs, after my 120lb bumper and 80lb skids. I’m sagging up front a bit. I’m still waiting on sliders too so I’ll definitely be ordering 700 lb springs for my coilovers. Good luck!

Thanks so much! I plan on doing some mountain crawling but until I see what my area has to offer (just getting into this), I am not sure if I will need some rock crawling capability.

Your answer has made me realize I need to go on some light trips and see what I am up against! Just got this thing yesterday so I am super hyped to jump into things my old blazer felt too fragile for.

Great call on the heavier springs, that is another thing I definitely wanted to know.

Thanks again!

Good call to see what your truck can do before moving forward on mods - especially $4,000 mods. I wish more people understood how capable a stock 4th Gen is. My $200 suspension upgrade (and it has been a tremendous upgrade - link is in my sig) used components that come standard on Toyota vehicles, so I suppose it’s still a stock truck, but it’s a mountain goat on trails and I’m not talking about gravel cruising on fire roads.

Don’t get me wrong - if you have the cash and top-shelf suspension parts and MRAP-worthy armor make sense for the places you want to go, do it. But a more conservative approach can save you a lot of money.

All the best with whatever you decide & keep us posted.

I definitely will, thanks for the input. So many mods, so little time!

Okay, so this might have an Obvious answer, buttttt

I have an '04 4WD w/ X-Reas, when I replace the suspension I plan to Delete the system and do a leveling kit.

Could I buy a Tacoma Coil Over set and rear shocks? I mean FJ/Tacoma/4Runner should all be the same yeah?

it doesn't have to be 4runner specific right?
