4th Gen v8 lack of power, CEL

So I noticed an odd noise when I fired up the truck yesterday morning. It lasted maybe 10 seconds and was very faint. It did not return the entire day. I heard it again this morning for 10-15 seconds and just as faint.

Both times the noise was faint and performance was not effected. After the truck sat at my job site for a few hours this afternoon, I fired it up to go home and the noise was there again, but only for a few seconds.

As I was pulling out of the driveway, the CEL came on. The truck was driving fine until about 35mph, when it became rather unresponsive to throttle inputs. On the highway, it did not want to shift up until there was almost no load on the engine.

There are no misfires, knocking, or any indications of the engine running rich or burning any oil/coolant.

I'm going to try and hit AutoZone this evening to get the code read real quick.

Anyone else have this issue??

I had a similar situation a few weeks ago, but without a noise. Truck started fine, but when I wanted to accelerate, it didn't want to. No CEL. Only after flooring it did it seem to want to go and then went right back into sluggish mode. The final thing was trying to start the truck and *click*...nothing but a couple of dash lights.
The culprit: bad battery. I replaced it four years ago after having the single swipe rear windshield wiper gremlin happen that points to the battery going bad.

Sounds like the AIP system acting up as it frequently does in the V8's, especially when you describe the 15 second startup noise.

There is lots of information on this, should be easy to search. Basically you'll need a cheap bypass kit if that is indeed the issue.

I like the sound of cheap bypass kit. I just spent $1700 to rebuild the rear and replace the front CV that exploded. In addition to the $1200 for the uhaul for 17 days because my mechanic was slow as balls [emoji35]

It sounds like the vehicle is in "limp mode" cause by the AIP. Before I had mine fixed, I was able to use a code reader to reset the CEL and take it out of limp mode. This bought me some time to fix it.

Well, went to AutoZone and had the truck scanned. I was expecting the AIP took a crap on me. Ordering the Hewitt-Tech bypass kit tomorrow

Sounds like AIP system failure induced limp mode, most likely valves stuck closed. Install the bypass and be done with it. I preemptively installed it on mine because we spent $1500 having it fixed on a GX prior to knowing how easy the bypass was.

So the noise my truck makes is more like a whining noise. Nothing like a vacuum cleaner and certainly not loud.

I'll be ordering the bypass kit this week, hopefully from @slyfox
