4wd conversion?

Ok, so I have a 2010 SR5 2wd. I really want to get 4wd and I dont want to get a new 4runner. How much do you think it would be with everything said and done?

It would cost you more than whatever you would pay for a new one with your trade-in. This isn't the 80's where you can just swap drive trains and call it a day. Different wiring harnesses, different ECUs, different sensors; the labor alone would make it too expensive.

Seeing as your asking it means you are probably not mechanically compentant enough to do the job which means you would fish out a shop to do the job (if you can find one with the balls to cut up a 1 year old truck) and i would estimate the job to be around $10k.

I am just wondering how someone could have possibly bought the wrong model with the 5th gen being around for this short a time???

I would recommend starting with a solid axle conversion, this will dilute the conversion cost substanially. Here is a good link to help:

It'll cost you WAY TOO MUCH to do a conversion.

Trade it in for a 4WD

Anything is possible. How much money do you have? If you pay list on parts and list on labor you could probably get it done for 20K.

2wd to 4wd conversion

I haven't looked at the 5th gens yet but the process would be pretty much the same.
