4wd flashes in 2wd.

I have swapped the vaccum lines at the acuator and did not check to see if it engaged the front diff. I swapped the vacuum lines at the VSV's and still no 4wd. It will not engage into 4wd. I made it engage on the old t-case by putting power to it and could not get it to disengage. The front ADD switch has yet to get power other wise. The one on the left has vacuum and power and ground the one on the left has niether. I put power to it and still nothing. I will try tomorrow to swap the vacuum lines on the actuator to see if it locks the front diff.

I didnt never check the to see if anything engaged on the front diff. the very first thing i did was pull the t-case actuator housing off like advised to see if anything was free spinning and nothing was free spinning. next i checked the fuse. (not blown) I moved on to the 4wd switch. (works has continuity). next the toyota service manual says check the add relay. (could not find relay skipped this step). next i moved to see if i had vacuum. I traced vacuum from intake to the storage tank in fender well. (it does) so i checked the VSV in the drivers side inner fender. the VSV on the left (blue) while engine running has 13.6 volts and vacuum. next i moved to the one on the right (brown) has no power or vacuum. So i swapped the vacuum lines from the right to left to see if light was off and it never went off. (my ignorance not to check from diff) next i moved to the front accuator to see if i had vacuum and it did have vacuum. So then i swapped the vacuum lines on it and still nothing but yet agian ignorance did not check front diff. Then i check the ADD switch and no continuity so i changed the ADD switch and still nothing. So i took new ADD switch out and put old one back in. Then is when i put power to the ADD switch with power probe and it engaged in 4wd. Then i could not disengage it and that is when i swapped out the t-case thinking it maybe one of the switches on t-case. I hope this clarifies what i done. And thanks for everyones help and patients. Tomorrow i will put it on the rack and see if the front diff engages by swapping the vacuum lines on the VSV's and keep yall updated.

He drove it home last night and came in this am and the was not flashing. I will engage in 4wd and you have to let it roll back to disengage. But the light still flashes and you can disconnect the vacuum on the brown VSV and it will stop flashing and work properly til re-engaged.

It sounds like the vacuum hoses got switched around causing the aad to be locked in 2wd and unlocked in 4wd.

This will cause the lights to flash in both 2wd and 4wd.

The vacuum lines are in correct positions. I put my VSVs on his and his on mine. and worked like a charm. and his VSV on mine done samething. So i took his off mine and blew it out and put it back on his 4runner and now works like a charm. It has to roll back some to engage in 4wd but my 4runner is same way. Thanks for everything

Damn, some serious shiz going on in here! my 4wd light flashes sometimes, i may have to do some investigations.

Glad you guys finally got it. I was getting a headache trying to figure out what was happening there. Forgive me for saying, but if you had followed my quoted post at the beginning, you would have known it was the VSV's in under five minutes.

Could you clarify what you mean by "blew it out" ? Do you mean with solvent or compressed air??

yeah i kept a headache. but after changing the transfer case it did not have the same actions. It still is not 100 percent. It will engage correctly and disengage. but the light will still flash. I can either swap the vacuum lines and it goes off or drive it a few miles and it goes off, but either way he is happy and it works. Thanks for all the help
