I don't have a 5th gen, but this is pretty standard across the board. 4low, is LOW. It is essentially the lowest gearing possible and driving in it, at speed, for long periods is a easiest way to fry your transmission and diff. It is meant for extreme low power, usually to pull out a vehicle or to get out of a bog. I have never used 4lo for a continues period. I wheel in 4hi, and only pop into 4lo when I think I will need it. Only for short bursts.

As for speed limit. Honestly, much above 10mph and the RPM is just shooting up. I am not sure of the exact max, but I suggest staying low. If you are traveling faster than 10-15 mph, you don't need to be in low.

As for the m4x4 mileage a month. No, you don't need to drive 16 miles a month; but you do need to regularly exercise the system so it doesn't freeze up on you.

About 25 or 30 mph unless you are willing to blow the motor up by letting it rev very high. On my 4th gen it will not go into 5th gear in lo range. I think if you put it in and out of 4x4 ocassionally and drive a little ways it will keep things working fine.

How fast can drive in 4WDHi

A similar question on how fast can we drive on 4WDHi(part time 4WD).

The user manual says that we need to keep speed below some limits like 50MPH when shift in/out of 4WDHi . But it does not mention whether we need to keep speed under some limit driving in 4WDHi mode.

No limit when driving in 4hi. Well speed limits of the road you are on.… but that's it.

Agreed. I have routinely shifted in and out of 4wd on my 3rd gen runner on the freeway in a snowstorm at 60+ mph. Shifted like a champ, and never had any issue.

It is all about gearing and as long as you are going a reasonable speed, the system will shift almost seamless. It is all about gear meshing, so keep it under 50 to be kind to the transfer process, but don't worry about driving at highway speeds in a bad rain storm or snow...
