5 speed tranmission questions

i have done a lot of searching and cant find the answers i am looking for. i have a 1995 4runner 4x4 with a 22re and a 5 speed transmission. i need a transmission what else can i get one out of that will bolt right in? i have found specs on line that tells me what transmission came in what, but not what will swap from another toyota model

You can use a W56 from 85-95 pickups (and first gen runners). So long as they are 22re.

Not sure whats in your runner but my 94 runner with 22re came with a g58 and Im putting a w56c in it as soon as can get to my buddys shop. Probably this weeked.

Here's a pic of it. I just installed the duals with a gear resuction kit and I put RADesigns "Triple Sticks" on it too.

thank you for the info do the transmissions have a tag on them with the number or a casting number i need to look for to identify the trans?

Might also need the transfer case to go w/ it. Yours may have a chain case. Gear driven trans cases are stronger and you can up grade the low range easier.

Hold on.

There are 5 different versions of the W56 used in the 85-95 4WDs with a 22RE.

They are not all interchangeable.

93-95 used a W56-E to be specific. But one from a 89-95 will also work.
85-88 will not work unless you get the t-case too.
