50th Annual Tierra Del Sol March 2-4 2012

If you have not been to TDS you are missing out on one of the best off-road events in the US. They have a raffle that averaged over 100k in prizes with last year and this year having over 150k in prizes. The funds for entry go to support several non-proffit organizations. There is a large vendors row that you can buy parts and get ideas for mods to your rig. The actual run itself is on Saturday and is a mild loop with several more challenging off-shoots that rejoin the trail. If it is a hardcore off shoot they usually have a marshall there to inform you of restrictions. Usually have 1200-2000 vehicles out there and about 300 do the run. It is best to line up early Satruday morning and be at the front of the pack.

Visit Tierra Del Sol - Four Wheel Drive Club of San Diego for more information and to pre-register. I already have my vacation request in and will be leaving early Friday to set up camp. Please don't be like some of the douches I have seen post up and say they are just going to show up since it is a free desert. If you come out for the event please pay the registration since it helps keep the area open for future use and the vendors and everything are there because the event. If you dont want to do the organized run that is fine since it can be a parking lot if you get towards the end of the line.

Glad to hear you are coming DLAK. I welcome everyone to caravan and camp with me. I will say I like a family friendly relaxed camp, adult beverage consumption is fine but drunken idiots need not apply. Friday and Saturday nights are usually nice meat potato meal(Carne asada/Steak Hot links), Saturday Sunday mornings are egg and chorizo burritos or similar, lunches are whatever you put in your cooler for on the trail. Welcome to use my grill or if you want to camp with me shoot me a PM and maybe we can consolidate menu and shopping.

The main loop is usually pretty stock friendly but I recommend min. 31's. In 2008 I did the trail with factory 265/75 street tires stock suspension. The TDS 4x4 club goes to great lengths to make sure there is something for all levels of vehicles and driver skill.

Sounds good man. I am not stock but I still worry since I have a 2nd gen lol. Hopefully I can do a monthly meet before so I can get to know everybody and not just by screennames. I am looking forward to march.

What's up Edwin, its about time you chime in. So are you going to be meeting up with Michael on Saturday morning? My understanding is that he is taking off early friday. I want to caravan with you guys, just want to make sure that we are all on the same page.

David- you are correct that I will be leaving Friday morning. I will be talking to Edwin a little later this morning. When we talked about this a month or so ago he was going to ask for Friday off also, so I think he typed wrong or was trying to say he was going to take off to line up early Saturday morning. The past couple years I camped close to the line up woke up, put truck in line, walked back to camp ate breakfast and then got in truck and drove.

Will you be bringing your trailer? I hope to have mine road wrthy by then but I doubt I will have my RTT or have it really set up for camp trailer. It will more likely just be in basic haul gear and firewood status at that point but I will be trying to get it more set-up if I can.

If you are going to be at the event and want to camp with our group please PM me and I will send my number. In the PM send what time you think you should be out at intersection of HWY 86 and SR22. I will look for a text or call at that time frame and will meet out at the HUGE Arco Gas station/ truck stop right there and lead to the camp site.

Rules for camping with my group. Must maintain a family friendly atmosphere, responsable drinking ok around the camp fire after all driving is done. Drunken idiots or those wanting to drink and then go trail drive will be asked to camp elsewhere. We are there to have a good relaxing time.
