5100 + stock coils or OME 884

Sorry, newb question. What does it mean to "set at 0?" Does it mean that there is no lift?

There are 4 settings on the front strut. 0, .085, 1.75 and 2.5 (I think that's correct) 0 doesnt translate to no lift, just the lowest setting on the strut.

I got 2.5" with 884's and 5100's set to 0.

Can you tell me how much you lifted the rear? It looks great. Also, any settling on the 884s (2884?) since install?

I'm thinking Bilsteins all around with 884 or 2884 (whichever you used assuming no settling) up front and SAW coils in rear. I'm hoping for 2.5"/1.5" lift with new 285 Duratracs and never have to touch it again.

I have 2 3/4" rake with KDSS so 1.5 rear may even be too much especially if I throw in some $80 airbags to assist with rear droop when loaded.

I have done exactly what you are looking into, I read and read through the forums and not too many people run 2884. I decided to do it anyway, I ordered bilsteins 2884 for the front, and 2885e's for the rear.
I set the front to 0 and got 2.5 for the first month or so. It settled at 2. The rear was about the same.

I loved the ride quality, it is very close to stock but you will no longer have the nose dive when you brake. When I went offroading it was just a little bit too soft and didnt have much if any rebound.
I have now switched to Icon only because I found some on craigslist but am still running the 2885e

The 2885e is the same as the 2885 just not as much of a lift. It sat almost level when I first put the lift on and after the 2884s settled it sits only slightly nose down.

Thanks a lot for the input, I just visited my local 4 wheel parts store and they talked me into just using the lift from the bilsteins at top notch to get 2.5. This shouldn't settle at all because it's using the existing coils that are already broken in. After seeing them in the store and wading through the misinformation in threads, I've decided it doesn't pre-load the coils either except for maybe a small bit due to the geometry being slightly different. If I find its too soft I'll go to wheelers T1's or toytec 2.5" coils which are stiffer than 2884's and also quite a bit stiffer than stock.

For more clarification I want to be able to rip down forest service roads and through some mud but don't plan on rock crawling.

What's the difference between OME front coils 884 & 2884 (or am I misunderstanding the numbering)?

That is the full part number they are one in the same. And I misspoke the rear coil is a 2895e. Not a 2885e

I thought the 2884 was the new model for the newer heavier 4runners. Higher spring rate and maybe a little longer too. But I'm a noob compared to most guys on here.

Hmm not sure guess it could be. The 2884 is what I put on, and it is very nice for a stock 5th gen. If you have any more weight up front you need a 2885.

I have the same setup (2884/5100 on lowest setting) and 2895e on the rear and it is a much firmer ride and exactly what I was looking for on my 2013.

Why do you feel it left a little to be desired off-road?
The 5100s are a little soft both on the compression side and the rebound side in my opinion. I found them to bottom out regularly. The rear would also give a few extra bounces after a bump, too much rebound. Feel great for crawling though, really soft and nice. When you are traveling with any speed though you had too watch out for the smallest of bumps.

What is everyone's opinion on switching out the UCAs with the 5100/884 combo? Is it necessary? I see some, but not everyone runs the upgraded UCAs.

I ran mine without an UCA. I got an alignment and it was out of oem spec but not by much. Everything appeared to have ok angles so I wasnt too worried about it.

I've pored over lots of different threads on this exact topic. I got my 04 4Runner back in November, and I just got my OME 2884 front coils and all four 5100s. I'm gonna scrap my X-REAS and put this stuff on - I'm just looking to level my truck. It does have the V8, so I'm debating between 0.85 or 0 for the front struts. Any thoughts?

Did you end up doing this? Thoughts afterward?

Reviving this thread and people here probably have a different set up now but wanted to get some more confirmation.

884 and 2884 are the same, correct? I’m looking at this https://www.summitracing.com/parts/emu-2884/make/toyota/model/4runner/year/2022#

I’m also thinking of doing the same set up:

Billies 5100 all around with
Front coil spring: ARB OME 2884
Rear coil spring: 1.5 (36-281817), potentially with additional .5 spacer (total 2”) for slight rake.

Some websites claim you’ll get a 2” lift like YotaMafia, Toytec, others say between 2.5-3” when set at the very bottom clip with the OME 2884. I had to do some more digging.

After speaking to a mechanic today, whom who installs these on a regular basis, he said 0 clip will give a 2” lift approximately. He suggested setting the clip to the second at 0.85 with OME 2884 on a stock weight 4runner. The lift will be between 2.5-3”, depending on the front weight. He also suggested on that 0.85 clip set up vs using a top spacers because the ride would be much stiffer. At 0 is recommended so you’re not pre-loading but 0.85 wouldn’t hurt for normal driving. Going above the 0.85 clip is not recommended specially I was doing a lot more off-road because I would put a lot of strain in the front axle. So I should be safe since I’m doing 99% pavement. He said the only thing is with the 1.5” in the rear, the car would be leveled if set to the 0.85 clip. And when the car is fully loaded, the rear would sag (reverse rake) so he suggested to either go with a 2” coil spring on the rear or a 0.5” spacer. I already have the 1.5” spring in my possession so I’m just gonna buy the spacer for now. Don’t want to buy the coil spring and shave another $200-300.

Anyways, I’m considering his recommendation. But love to know if people have the same set up with the new latest 5th gens.

884 and 2884 are the same. 883/4/5/6 are the old OME numbers. OME was acquired by ARB, so now you buy ARB OME parts, and the new parts just add a 2 in front. They're otherwise identical.

The stock spring rate should be 580 lb/in, but that may have changed from 4th gen to 5th gen. Someone quoted 500 lb/in for 5th gen, but I'm skeptical. The (ARB) OME (2)883/4/5 are all 590, so just under 2% stiffer. The 884 springs should also be about 2" longer than stock.

The Bilstein 5100s should also provide a very small amount of lift vs stock because they're longer, though not by much. Longer at max extension, longer at full compression, and a longer range of motion.

Based on my research, my best guess would be that the (2)884's should give you about 2.5" of lift right away, but this will likely settle to 2" like your mechanic said. The 883s are likely to give about 2" right away, and settle to around 1.5"

I also have the B12 36-281817 springs in the back, but haven't installed them yet. My best guess, combined with 5100s, will be around 1.5-1.6" in the rear (4WD).

Going 5100s all the way around, with the B12 36-281817 in the rear and (2)884s in the front SHOULD virtually eliminate, or at least greatly reduce factory rake...

Added standard caveat/disclaimer: all lifts from new springs depend on your current setup, it's age, and it's wear and sag. If you have old original springs with 100k or more on them, you're likely to get much more lift than if you've got brand new springs.
