5th Gen 4Runner Lift Buyers Guide

I have considered 1.75 as some suggest aftermarket UCAs at 2.5. I believe the rule of thumb is 3 or more and you need them. That is partially why I haven't done much til now. But I have a feeling I would end up wanting to reset at 2.5 if I did not. I'm just going to make sure I find a good alignment shop/tech.

yeah I didn't want to go 2.5 because I didn't want to risk the need for UCA's. I'm actually quite happy with the stance at 1.75. In a few years I'll probably want to bump it up to 3/2 with coilovers and 285 tires so I'll worry about UCAs then.

I did bilstein 1.75 fronts and 1" cornfeds rear along rear bilsteins. And now i have a regret i should of done 2.5s front with 1.5 rears and now im paying for labor twice along with alignment.

Yes. I have those exact rear spacers sitting beside my front 5100s in the garage. Hoping to make some time or take to get installed in the next couple weeks. I'm going 2.5 in front and throwing those on back. Will eventually put 5100s on the back too. Check online. I was able to find them for 28.xx and free shipping on ebay. open box, but never used.

Do you know by adjusting the bilsteins up front to 2.5 will require replacing UCAs? Or i should be fine with the stocks?

I see differing opinions. I will not be replacing mine initially. I may kick myself and pay for labor down the road to get them. But from what I see, a large number of people set 2.5 up front and run stock UCAs. It's just a matter of having a good alignment tech. I've also seen some suggest tire size as a factor, but I'm not sure how much that plays into it. Hopefully someone else can comment there. I have searched and read enough over the past 4-5 years to know enough to know I don't know enough.

3" toytec bilstein

I just installed this kit from toytec bilstein on my 16' sr5 and dropped it off for an alignment this morning. I have to say It's driving as nice as before if not better. The install took me two nights after work to install, one night for the front, the other for the rear. Anyway, I received the computer print out from the alignment shop after I picked it up and wanted to ask your opinions of the results.

This was really helpful to me as far as seeing what my options are. I think for now I'm going to do the Daystar 2.5/1.5 for now, and see how I like it. From the research I did it seems that it will level the truck out as well as raise it a bit. Can't wait to install it :boink:

I've never lifted anything before and this thread has me a little overwhelmed. I went on a couple novice trail rides this past few weeks and realized that a little more clearance up front would be very helpful.

Are all bilstein 5100's adjustable? Can I just do 5100s up front to level out the rake a little (or maybe add a small spacer in the rear with the 5100's)

Could someone please give me an explain-like-im-5 summary for the most cost effective way to get a little more clearance?

Yes.

It's in here. Or you could go the stickied "Build threads", or the "Post your lifted picture here" thread and look at a few of those. Most of them have explanations and pictures in them. Some of us even have helpful links to our own builds in our signature lines. :wink2:

Your cheapest bang for your buck would be spacers on top of the front struts and possibly the rear springs. Your next cheapest but better performance gain would be a 5100 kit all around.

Lot's of kits and cost/performance levels available here.

In that link it looks like there is adjustable and non-adjustable 5100's

I'm thinking 5100's in the front and a very small spacer in the back. My understanding is that spacers up front give a very poor ride. My goal is not a lot of lift (I have a commute so gas mileage is a concern), but another inch of ground clearance would have gone a long way when I was forced to stay in ruts in slick off-camper situation.

You will need UAC's and your ride will be a little more stiff. I think 5100's is perfect balance set at 1.75" for ride comfort and suspension geometry..

Good luck with your decision after all is your rig....

I have a 3 inch OME lift on my 2016 w/o UCAs. I have seen no problems yet and have no rubbing issues after I cut the flaps and pushed the wheel liner forward a little bit.

The ride with the OMe medium springs is perfect. It eliminates the squishy feeling the stock suspension had.

Going 2.5 on the bilsteins and 1.5 daystars, does anyone know if its appreciate for a daily driver communting?

Had this setup for 15k miles. Hated how soft the oem rear coils were. Anytime I had gear or passengers the rear end would squat down looking like the coils are sagging. With the 1.5" daystar spacers it looked good with no passengers but you will notice how crappy they are if you ever go offroad. I'd spend a little more and get some 1.5" or 2" coils for the rear.

But if it is strictly a street queen then the 2.5"/1.5" on oem coils will suffice.

When I lifted my '11 TE w/KDSS 3/2, the UCAs were delayed so I ran with stock ones for awhile. At full droop I could hear the springs and UCAs making contact, but all it did was rub off some paint.

Planning on getting the 3in lift Ome from toytec
884 light front
Light supeflex rear coil
60020 rear shock(super flex coil)

OME full suspension -- Click here for details

I was wondering since I have KDSS Will I need a rear track bar since it's more than a 2" lift?

And will I need uca? I heard people 4Runner have terrible stealing while driving with a 3in lift without uca.

I have a 2013 Limited with XREAS and I used the Daystar KT09133BK leveling kit in the front and the KT09127BK in the rear. I had bought the Toytec 2.5" lift kit but decided I didn't want to mess with bleeding the front struts. The Toytec kit uses the same Daystar rear spacers. I should probably throw it up for sale, it's still on shelf in my shop.

Tires in this picture are Bridgestone Revo2 275/55R20.

Did you not like my reply on Friday well enough? Yes, that is the one. You will find many people running it.

Sorry thanks for the reply, i just like to get second answers just to make sure, i know were getting the same set up but do you think there will be potential problems down the road of this set up? Im asking cause this is my daily driver but most of my driving is 95%highway commute.
