5th Gen 4Runner Lift Buyers Guide

Hey! Proud new 4runner owner and total noob to the forum and offroading so I apologize if this is common knowledge or available information.

Have a question about leveling kits/sway.

I installed a 2" level in the front (the actual difference before had the front about 1.75" lower than the rear)

After install, the back is now 1.25" lower than the front. (the actual distance to the rim lowered)

I originally wanted it level, and the kit basically made the back lower than the front now which looks equally dumb in my opinion.

The issue: Now it sways. Like a lot, especially on the highway in wind. But its even difficult to drive in a straight line when I'm only going 30mph, even when I haven't had any beers (joke).

My questions:
1. Should I add 1"coil spacers to the rear to "fix" the rear sag?
2. Would doing so will also fix the sway issue?

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!

:peep:
Well, the stock rake is about 1.5 inches, so there is nothing unusual that your nose is now sticking up in the air. That was definitely expected. If you want it levelled out, then a 1" spacer in the rear will get it a lot closer.

Don't know what to tell you about the sway though!

I did some searching but it seems like everyone has a different set up or gen then my runner. Is anyone with a 5th gen running

Bilstein 5100 front/back with max front height. Toytec RCC2.0P. Super flex rear coils.
Stock springs in the front

I currently have the Bilstiens 5100 and I’m running a daystar spacer in the rear. I wanted to get rid of the spacer and I ordered some toytec rear coils

Any pictures and what is the final ride height? 2 or 2.5 lift?

Thanks. Sorry I’m coming from the world of jdm and lowered cars. I figured a 4runner was a good upgrade and change of pace.

OK guys, what are ya'lls thought on this set up.

Option 1: Dobinson lift kit with UCA

Option 2: Bilstein 6112 + 5100 rear with icon rear spring and Dobinson UCA

will also be adding the 1.25" wheel spacers (shouldn't have anything to do with suspension but just in case)

Background: 2019 ORP no KDSS. Plan on adding C4 lo pro w/HCA, winch and some kind or rack within the year. This is a DD for me as well and ride quality has to be pretty good since I will be riding with an 16 month old on our adventures. my plan is to only lift 2" and have a rake. I do NOT want anything that requires servicing and from what I have read (maybe skipped/mis read) that these 2 kits do not need any kind of servicing after 50k miles. Feel free to throw in recommendations on something I should add or subtract and why you think its better than what I've chosen so far please and thank you ahead of time!

I'm currently running a dobinsons lift kit + UCA and love it. Was originally going to do the 6112/5160s route but some folks I know found it to be a little harsh. Ride comfort is an important factor for us as its DD and we do pretty long road trips. Been pretty pleased with the comfort so far.

Didn't originally get the UCAs but decided to after the alignment tech couldn't get it into spec. Super pleased with it ever since.

I would go option 1, even though I went with extra heavy setup from OME no UCA's. Yet.

any feed back for this set up currently

Bilistiens front 1.75 w/stock springs and stock uca's and bilstiens back with daystar spacer in rear.

i already ordered my toytec rear coils.
I was going to change my set up be bilstiens all around w/front 1.75 and toytec super flex 2' coials and remove the daystar spacer.

If you go with 1.75 up front and 2 in superflex in the rear you will have one hell of a rake on your 4runner. I was trying to help you on another thread you started. If you go with 1.75 up front on bilsteins you will only need a 1 inch lift in the rear.

Yes I just saw it. I figured I’d try to get feed back. I appreciate the help. It looks like I’ll be going with toytec front springs and plate to match the rear coils. You guys think I need to get new UCAs? Or can I still go stock? I don’t want to break anything but I wasn’t really sure.

So I am in the process of piecing together my lift right now and I have run in to a few questions that I am trying to figure out. I have been saving up and am deciding to ball out on this lift the first time around after running other lifts on my previous 4Runner and knowing the pros and cons of them.

My setup is a mix of long distance road trips and camping trips, and trips to the offroad parks for some more hardcore crawling.

Right now i am looking at the following:

King Coilovers w/adjusters
King Rear Shocks w/adjusters
Total Chaos UCAs
Dobinsons Variable Rear Spring
(285 KO2s)

Here are the questions I am trying to get answered before I move forward.

1. What spring rate is a good go-to for the front kings? I see some kits come with a 550, but i will eventually be putting more weight up front with a lopro bumper and winch. Its probably worth jumping to the 600 or 650 to start, but i cant really decide which would be better.

2. So I was looking at the kit you can order from FilthyMotorsports and I am kinda confused by some of the options. They offer custom coilover and shock lengths and say that it is necessary for anything over 2.5" of lift. I was just planning on trying to do a standard 3" lift front and rear. Is this something I need to worry about? I've never dealt with custom length components before.

3. I am looking at Dobinsons for the rear springs. Their variable springs seem like a good option. I carry some gear on a daily basis, but I definitely load it up when i go out for a weekend of camping. Does anyone have experience with the C59-675V (Stock weight) or C59-677V (400lb)? Would the 677V be too harsh for some daily driving?

I got my King's through Filthy. Call them up or email them, they (Ben) will contact you shortly afterwards or within 1 business day and will tailor your King's setup to your needs. Trust Ben, he know's what he's doing and will ask the right questions to get you what you're looking for. I was in the exact same boat as you and I'm happy I went with them.

Out of the box from king they come with 550lb spring rates! If you add a bumper I would instantly go with a minimum of 650lb spring ratings. I've seen guys who come back to us after getting a bumper and a winch wanting to go 700lb springs. It doesnt cost extra, you just have to wait a little longer usually 4-6 weeks for them. We set customers up all day with those over here at Toyteclifts. Let me know if I can help you out we even run the forum discount on the kings for members.

I run the C59-677V currently and will be stepping up to the C59-701V shortly. I looked quickly at your build info and didn't see you carrying any significant weight unloaded currently. You should have 400# constant weight, meaning unloaded weight to consider the 677V. The 675V indicates it's for stock weight unloaded. Also consider all the variable rate coils are 3" lift as opposed to 2" and if you run it with less weight than is recommended it will give more lift than advertised. Most everyone seems to prefer 2" in the rear for the "leveled" look.
I'm sure if you e-mail Mike at Dobinson's he could make a recommendation for you. He's been very helpful to me.
For perspective, if you look at my signature you'll see I run pretty heavy unloaded and the 677V is almost right for my setup, it's really only is a minor issue when I'm loaded up with the family, dogs, and gear etc. to head out. And when I say issue it's that the load creates about a half inch reverse rake.
Also, rear coils are really easy to swap out if you increase the static load of your rig. And I'm sure someone would jump on a set of used coils.

Bilstein 5100s all around 1.75 up front, stock spring height in rear

I just wanted to level out so I was going to go with .85 up front and 0 rear.

The shop tech suggested I go 1.75. It looks like I picked up a little height in the rear with just the 5100 shocks. Of course I didn't measure anything beforehand!

Levels out perfectly when not loaded down. Stock wheels and tires... for now!

I’m going in circles deciding on coilover kit. I had decided on Kings and then a local shop installs OME and recommended the BP 51 set. The delta in price is not that much between the kits. I was all set on the OME then as I read about them they are a 2.0 diameter vs 2.5 for the Kings. I’ve been reading posts watching videos , can’t decide! If the OME were 2.5 I would have purchased today. Any helpful perspective on this? Appreciate it, great forum!

Would you recommend this even if you were going with a lighter aluminum bumper such as the Victory 4x4 Blitz (30lbs) or even a hybrid steel like the SSO hybrid at ~50-60lbs?

Really comes down to preference but we've seen some small sag even from the smallest bumpers. You'll probably be okay with 650 but if you add a winch that'll automatically need to be 700
