5th Gen 4Runner Lift Buyers Guide

Hi, so I have a 2011 SR5 w/ standard suspension and I'm looking to lift it. I'd love to stay below $1200, and think it's easy to do so until I read about the possibility of needing new UCA's..

Ideally, I'm looking for a 3" lift, and I like the ToyTec 3" non-adjustable kit, but new UCA's are so damn expensive, yet I don't want to mess up the alignment on my 4runner. So I guess I have 2 questions:
1. Do I really need new UCA's with a 3-inch lift?
1a. If so, what are the best cheapest options?
2. How high can I lift without needing new UCA's?

Hi I wanted to ask which lift you had fianlly decided on, I am at the same situation you were in and some advice would be great. Thanks.

How much lift did that get you? Saw the video, exactly what I’m looking to do

So I’ve been trying to find any information on putting 19 Tacoma TRD stock struts and shocks on my 14 limited 4runner I got a set with 3000 miles on them. Any input

Toytec Boss coil overs...what is this rebuildable?

Toytec Front Aluma Series Coilovers VS Dobinsons Twin Tube Nitrogen Gas charged shock absorbers....which one would last longer without replacing or rebuilding? Because I sure and the heck don't know anyone who would want to "rebuild" their shocks? Why buy something that leaks and needs rebuilt? Clue me in please. Sorry I just don't know why a Toytec Boss shock would leak out on you?

All shocks will eventually leak with age. Its just that the nicer ones can be rebuilt (and revalved) while the more affordable onea like dobinsons just get replaced. I believe the expensive ones estimated rebuild times are more inline for the hardcore consistent user. Weekend warrior use may allow them to last longer between rebuilds.

i posted in the trd pro lift specific thread but figured i throw the post in here as well.

i've got a 17' trd pro and its got about 39k on it and im feeling like i need new tires so i was gonna go ahead and get the lift done at the same time.
what i was looking at getting was the toytec trd specific 2” lift kit and replacing the front coil with dobinsons 14” front coils. i'm assuming i would need to replace the uca's as well. so i was looking at spc adjustable uca’s.
should i be concerned about negative rake with this setup? particularly with a full load in the back (4 ppl w/full camp gear ect).
front what ive read the regular 2” lift still has a 2” difference between the front and rear so i feel this would even it out a bit but dont want the front too high.

would this be a good option based on the usage of the current suspension system to do the more minor upgrades i'm considering above or would be more wise to replace the system?

just trying to make the most logical decision financially, and for vehicle performance and overall longevity.

i live in denver and do take my truck on big camp trips and up into the trails in the mountains and have hit moab a few times. ive felt the truck is very capable as is but the extra height would definitely be welcome due to some the rubbing ive done riding around with my jeep buds, but we arent doing anything major.

any help offered would be greatly appreciated. cheers!

Hi, I need a bit of clarification. Do lift spacers like Toytec, Cornfed sit ontop of the upper strut mount or does it sit between the spring and the upper strut? I'm reading different things and I'm getting conflicting answers.

I think Procomp and readylift SST sits ONTOP of the upper strut mount. Is that right? The reason why I ask this is I don't want to potentially add additional preload. I trust toyota/fox in tuning the suspension and I dont want to mess it up adding a 2-2.5" spacer if it sits between the spring and upper strut mount. Thanks in advance.

Any guesses at the Lift and Tire size on this 4R?

Does anyone have any guesses at the lift/leveling kit height and tire size on this 4Runner? I really like this OEM+ kinda look and would like to replicate it on my nautical blue TRD Offroad.

Between the top plate of the strut, and the mounting point of the frame. You remove the front strut assy, attach the spacer on top of the assembled strut, then re-install the complete assy.

A 1"-thick spacer gives a little over 2" lift, because the spacer is about halfway between the pivot and the tire.

Great thread. I am currently looking to purchase a 4Runner in the future once this stay at home order in Colorado is lifted. Looking to the future I know that if I do get a 4Runner I will want to lift it at some point. So I have a few questions. My first question comes from my friend who has a Jeep. He was concerned about doing a lift to the front suspension as it is fully independent and a lift like I want (3 inches or so) would throw off the suspension geometry. while looking through the forum I have not seen anyone talk about this and the only thing I have seen in higher-end kits to address this (and it seems optional) is a replacement to the upper control arm. The second question is, ar the fox shocks on the TRD Pro the same that you will get if you were to get their lift kit just minus the springs?

I'm sure as I go through the process of educating myself I will have many more questions going forward seems like an awesome community.

Just had a full Kings setup installed on my 2020! In love already. More lift and better ride than the Bilstein 5100s on stock springs. Big thanks to Filthy Motorsports.

Hello,

Hoping ya'll can confirm or correct my reading on lifting a 5th gen with KDSS:

Any 5th gen suspension without resis will work. (Doesn't need to indicate specific to KDSS).
ex: Bilstein 5100, 6112, Toytec without resi, Icon/Fox without resi.

With resis - KDSS specific is recommended for modified resis mounting bracket, without kdss specific - resi mounting will need modification.
ex: King specific to KDSS, Icon appears to be compatible with track bar and skip sway bar relocation brackets.

Working through my research phase on this and just need a little clarity on whether or not suspension needs to be KDSS specific or not.

Can you share the specs? It looks great.

Sure. Below is my build sheet. Ben at Filthy spent about an hour with me on the phone going through my use case, expected usage, etc. I'd say my usage is going to be 75% on road and 25% off road, with heavy usage in the winter driving in snow, off road. I will very likely not be going the route of a rear bumper, dual batteries, or anything too heavy.

How much did you lift your front?
is that 2.5in or 3in?

I believe it is set for 3 inches. The dealer changed the lift setting that King shipped to me to be higher. I'm waiting for it to settle a bit before I decide if I want the front lower.

412Runner, your 4runner looks great. I currently have 5100s on our 2018 SR5 and am about to go with 285 tires and wife and I think we should probably look at increasing the suspension travel/lifting it slightly for clearance and a more dog-conscious off-road ride :)

Paying attention to this thread and trying to figure out what we should do suspension-wise.

does dashboard lights normally get triggered after a lift install to the point you need to do a zero calibration or is it vary by different kit heights? read through most of this thread and see a few people having to do the calibration after lift install.
