5th Gen 4runner???

Don't you all think it's kind of strange we have not seen any spy pictures of the 5th gen 4runner yet?? I would have thought they would have bin seen by someone?


4 out of 5 aliens choose to drive 4runners when they visit earth. :D (you didn't hear it from me though)

Well, i would bet that you will more news next year (2008) since the 4runner will likely be a 2009 model. With all Toyota/Lexus models coming out recently, not many people (spies) are out looking for a 2009 model...yet.
 
Do you guys think anyone at Toyota visits this sight, or others like it to get an idea about what their core market looks like? Also to find out what direction to go with a redesign.

My guess is that by now, its already almost finished with the re-design. Speaking from an engineer's perspective, new products undergo tons of testing and trial and error before being released to the market. I work on medical products, cars are no different with numerous regulations. They're probably crash testing the 5th gen. as we speak.

I TOTALLY agree !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as style goes , things in general SUV's , trucks seem to be going back to a harder lines , instead of the rounded egg look.

Like the new Jeep's , The Liberty is looking square like the Commander , GC has harder lines also , New Tundra has harder lines too. Not that I want to drive a box like a Commander , but the egg rounded shape just screams "no off road mall hopper"...lol

I've also heard "unconfirmed rumors" that with the cross over cars/wagons , what ever you call them. Ford is redesigning the Explorer so they can offer a vehicle more geared to off road/adventure crowd like the FJ , 4R , Xterra , Jeeps , H3 , ect.... since they have nothing in that market and can build off the Explorer long standing name. ( if they don't run out of money 1st....lol) This came from a friend who has been selling Fords at the same dealer for 30 years. Take it for what its worth and if anyone even cars what Ford is doing.

I work in automotive related (unfortunately not Toyota) and we are locked into designs for products on '10 MY. Designs for '09 are well underway from a tooling, proveout and testing perspective.

Yes they do! In fact since I'm the admin they decided to give me an early prototype 5th gen to test drive - I"m taking it to Ocala Nat'l Forest tomorrow to test its off-road capabilities. They asked me to be careful not to damage the Hybrid Synergy Drive and don't let any of the black tape fall off - they don't want any early spy pics to get out.

I don't think it needs an updated style, I like the looks as is. The new suvs look like boxes, oh yeah the jeeps aren't they a sight, can you say ugly!

It seems like forever since body-on-frame SUVs ruled the automotive landscape, but there's still a sizable amount of high-profit share up for grabs, even with gas at well over $3 per gallon. With that in mind, Toyota is planning another crack at the large and in charge Sequoia.

Brenda Priddy's crew got a couple of well disguised spy shots of the Sequoia on public streets, but the massive amounts of dirt adorning the camo tells us that Toyota's future big ute may have actually been tested off-road. The Sequoia is based off the same platform as the Tundra, and the two trucks will share Toyota's awesome new 5.7L, 381 HP engine. The 4.7L V8 should also be available, along with five- and six-speed automatics. Expect the Sequoia to hit show rooms in early '08.

Toyota may be on top of its game when it comes to fuel efficient transportation, but even the boys and girls from Aichi Japan have trouble saying no to a rolling profit waiting to happen.

Real off road or just a dirt trail is the question. They even test Corvettes on dirt roads sicne I've seen spy shots of those covered in mud too. I doubt the next Sequoia will be any more off roadable than the current one.

I bet the next 4Runner will also be moving further from it's off road heritage now that the FJ seems to be fullfillling off roaders needs.
 
That's what I was afraid of too. The only problem with that theory in my mind is that Toyota already has the Sequoia, Highlander duo (and even the Landcruiser) to fulfill the other needs...

My guess is the FJ is going to head toward the H1 section (real offroading) and the 4Runner for all the people who like to go hunting, camping, fishing, romping through the mountains.
 
Don't put too much faith in the spies.
They were way off on the 2008 Highlander. Even Edmunds swore that the 2007 would be a re-design, and then Toyota decided to push it back another 9 months given the issues with other first-model-year products. The "spy shots" were just unofficial pictures of the publicly-announced concept cars... I don't think anybody predicted that it would look just like a bigger RAV4.
 
I say it all depends what Toyota is trying to go after. IIRC, the Sienna took 24 months from design to production and the Solara was like 18 months. But the Lexus LS took over 5 years in the making.
 
Most sites I've looked at say the next 4Runner will be a 2010 model (it will be available in Fall 2009....that's why people are saying it will be out in 2009).

The next generation Sequoia will be a 2009. It's unlikely Toyota would release two re-engineered vehicles in the same model year.
