5th Gen Bumper cover issue (possible resolution)

As I have posted before, my 2016 Limited has it's bumper cover coming off in the corners. Started almost immediately from time of purchase.

I have been told that a New part (bumper cover) has been engineered addressing this issue. As of March 16, 2017.

Will let everyone know how the "repair" goes...

I wouldn't be too happy about a new car with a non factory paint job as well.
I personally would call Toyota customer service 1-800-331-4331 and have them compensate you with an accessory credit or a few more free oil changes or something along those lines.
Technically ( state dependant ) anything that compromises the vehicles value within the first year could be considered lemon territory...I don't think it needs to go that far as it's only a bumper but Toyota should be willing to wheel and deal with you a little over the inconvenience/frustration.
Also the newly painted part should have the same paint warranty as a new vehicle so I wouldn't get too upset about it. Unless it's a crappy job I'd probably ask for an accessory credit and roll on down the road and enjoy your awesome truck.

Does the bumper have a specific part number vs a stock bumper? And have they changed out the bumper stay's previously?

Accessory credit is probably the best way to go. Not much you can do about it being painted, that's how most auto manufacturers ship parts.

Some of the smaller stuff like mirror covers or very small trim parts can be ordered paint matched, but even then it only seems like it's that way for the last few years of the current model.

Theoretically it should be done by a Toyota approved/certified/whatever they call it body shop so that it meets their standards. Your mileage may vary with that...

sorry, i was out of the country for a while...

i believe the part number is different but i wasn't able to verify. The bumper cover is only "noticeable" different on the corners. They replaced more brackets.

it is also my understanding they are only seeing this one the limited versions.

I thought i was in the clear with the fix...

Any updates on this? Me and another guy on here are having this issue on our Limited’s. Both of ours have been to the shop over the weekend. This is the 3rd time in the shop for him, and 1st for me.
With mine, they “fixed it”, and when we went out to look at it, they’ve already popped out. They took it back in, tightened everything up. Looked at it again, they weren’t popped out, but we’re still not flush with the quarter panels. A few miles down the road is all it took for them to pop back out.

Thanks. I'll update with what Toyota tells me today. Someone is supposed to be looking at it again this morning. They didn't have a chance to get to it yesterday. I'm really hoping they can fix the issue, because I paid a lot for this vehicle and it honestly looks like shit with the bumper popped out on both sides.

OK, so my dealership called earlier (North Park Toyota in San Antonio). I have been extremely pleased with their customer service, and going over and beyond to get this issue fixed. They have driven out to me (over an hour away) and dropped off a loaner and picked my truck up each time they have had to look at it over the past month. They called today and said they will replace the front bumper because the tabs are bent and some are broken. The loaner they gave me last week has tags that are expiring today, so they're going to send out a 4runner first thing in the morning so I can have something to haul some stuff and my family to South Texas this weekend. They'll have to paint the bumper and install when it gets in, so they said it'll be ready on Saturday or Monday. Hopefully this resolves the issue, but I have read other threads where they replaced the bumper and the same problem arises 6 months later. I'll keep everyone posted with pictures and such. I'll post some before pictures here in a little bit.

Worked at a body shop today and mentioned the problem to the owner who showed me a 3M glue they use that is made for the problem. He said it is on all brands of car using this bogus method and the glue is so strong you have to break the tabs the next time it is removed....but it won't pop out until then! I am going to have it done.

Yeah, my salesman mentioned something about glue when this first started. I told him I didn't want any glue on my truck at all. He said the body guy mentioned something about the paint has a chance of peeling away with the glue method as well, but that the bumper won't be popping out.

Just wanted to update everyone. The dealership dropped off my truck yesterday, after getting the bumper replaced. The bumper is tight on the corners, but doesn't line up perfectly and there are definitely imperfections in the paint when they painted the new bumper. I'm sure they outsourced the painting and installation to the cheapest 3rd party body shop they could find. At this point, I'm tired of the back and forth with them. I'm going to let bygones be bygones and wait until the bumper pops out again, or the paint starts chipping. They definitely did go over and beyond on getting the issue resolved, but they cheaped out on labor and the fix which is kind of disappointing.

So, I am actually having the exact same problem on mine. I was in an accident last year where a guy clipped my front end. Bumper was repainted... Didn't have problems until 6 months later. Now it looks like [MENTION=116305]Tisoy281[/MENTION] bumper pic...

I am going to be changing out my old light bar this week. So, I will take pics then.
