5th Gen Calipers

I never used the parking brake while changing the brakes. The rear rotors did not just pop off on either side though due to the rotors being rusted onto the hubs. I had to pb blaster them several times and use a mini sledge to get them to pop off

So I've had the rear apart 2 times on each side now. I don't see any indication on the rotors of any rubbing but when I put it back together and drive it it sounds like metal rubbing on metal. I'm loosing my mind. I ordered the 3rd gen rear rotors and 5th gen calipers. Is this the problem. While looking at it apart it looks as if the inner rear pads do not protrude out past the caliper brackets far enough and this is where I'm getting the grinding from? I even took and flattened the brake pad shims Bc I thought maybe they were touching the rotors. But if this was the case wouldn't I see rub marks on the rotors?

Also does anybody know how to remove brake dust. My front right caliper was down to metal on metal and pretty much ruined the paint

It's paint, can't use a lot on it. Wet sand, Wax, and clay bar should do the trick.

I second the clay bar.

You want to pull that stuff up out of the clearcoat.

Use lots of quick detailer to lube the heck out of it.

I'm about two weeks into my 5th Gen brake upgrade and love it. Everything went smooth! It had some cheap chinese 4th Gen brake pad before and it was horrible at stopping.

After noticing the improved braking on our 2014 TEP vs our FJ, I did this 5th Gen upgrade on my 2007 FJ Cruiser. However, does anyone have the Speed Bleeder part numbers for the front?

As long as they share the same caliper, speed bleeder should work with 4th and 5th gen

I changed out the rear end breaks; calipers, rotors, and pads with 5th gen components. Didn't have any issues removing anything, parking break was released while changing. After I got everything installed and bled the system i attempted to drive... no good. Breaks are definitely catching somewhere. I am getting both rubbing noises and the click.

Does anyone have pictures of the star nut? and pin the may need adjusting/ replacement? I would really like to not take it in and pay someone to fix it. If not I guess I will be crawling her in to a break place tomorrow to have them take a look at it.

I have the same issue - only in reverse though. It's clicking somewhere.

What I found with mine is I needed to put my wheel on carefully to make sure it was on correctly. If I just threw it on, it'd wobble and would get stuck like 3/4 of a rotation. Once I took the wheel off and made it it was on "round" then it went away.

I'm wondering if the 5th gen rotor I bought are out of spec and causing this?

I may try to buy new pins and a 4th gen rotor to see if it fixes it.

Ended up not painting my calipers due to time and space constraints... Have two brand new cans of black paint I bought from Amazon FREE to anyone interested. Just cover the shipping costs from 60605.

Wash, and clay bar. You can also use Iron-x.

Front rotors stuck

I'm working on mine right now and the front rotors are being a butt to remove.

Any tips or tricks?

I've hit it with BP buster and I'm letting it sit now. I've been taping it with a rubber mallet. but it doesn't seem to have budged yet. :gun4:

I got them off, it just took a little prying.
I used a short pry bar and placed it between the caliper mounting point and the rotor and pried a little then rotated, pry , rotate until it popped off. I had 2 lug nuts on so it wouldn't fly off and hit me.

Probably not the best method, but it worked.

Upgraded the front brakes to the 5th gen yesterday. Did the backs a couple months ago. Interesting thing on the backs, one caliper still looks silver, the other is rusted out already.
