Sweet! And you originally did have the larger 13.3" rotors, also while reusing your 4th Gen Pads?

Yes same 4th gen pads. Sport 04 so I had the larger rotors and calipers.

heiser it hurts me inside knowing you spent the time and money on the swap and left even newish pads in there. not a big deal; it just hurts my OCD

It's more than just an old thing... It could potentially be bad for the rotors, as the pads are already set into the other rotors... I would have at least scuff up the pads with a wire wheel first

are those the 1 - CENTRIC 142.44287 FR Caliper
1 - CENTRIC 142.44288 FL Caliper ? I'm doing this upgrade on a 2007 FJ Cruiser via I'm running 18' rims with 35s" along with many others and we are having a hard time finding the 5th gen Calipers ,any help you guys can give us in our FJ Forum would be great ... our thread

So say a person have a 4th gen and they upgraded to 5th gen. Then they return the core and the remanufactor/rebuilder fix it up and sends it back to another retailer as a 5th gen reman calipers.
Then its time for me to do this upgrade and i actually received a 4th gen. That would be f'ed up . Then I have to pay for shipping back.

That would suck..because I am looking at this.
I would hope they notice when rebuilding that the seals are too big and check it.. but you never know.
That's not the way it works. The caliper is identified by its cast number, not by what it says it's suppose to be on the return box.

So will a core return be credited? I mean I can stuff a Kia caliper in the box and still be credit as a 5th gen per say.
Perhaps, as long as the core meets the requirements for a valid return. Centric rebuilds calipers. They don't care what core, as long as it can be rebuilt. They probably get hundreds of cores every day to evaluate and start the rebuild process. It's someones job to quickly inspect returns to see if the core is good and to identify it based on its cast number, then move on to the next return. I'm only guessing here as I don't work in that industry. I plan on returning my FJ cores, which are Gen 4.
Even the Centric caliper return guidelines do not say you must return what you bought, only that the returned core meets the following guidelines.

Bought this 4runner about a month ago knowing it was going to need brakes. Glad I came across this forum and post about this upgrade. I had a terrible wiggle when deaccelerating and around 70 mph cruising. Completely gone now. Brakes like an absolute beast. Everything bolted on without issue. Wrapped this up on Tuesday. Went surprisingly smooth. The biggest headache was the Star Adjusters. Took a couple tries to get them adjusted correctly. In the process of dealing with them forgot to torque the rear left caliper and they walked themselves out after about 25 miles. Pretty embarrassed on that oversight and tow.

I almost did the 5th gen caliper conversion but decided not. Instead I rebuilt my 4th gen calipers for $40 (seal kit + one piston in case I needed it). Here's my reasoning and observations in case it helps anybody.
1. I'm in TX so I don't have the recurring corrosion problems that many of you up north are having. I got 171K miles until I encountered uneven pad wear. The 4th gen calipers work fine in this climate.
2. All the talk about reman calipers rusting and having to buy paint and spend a lot of time painting was the deal killer. I even have access to powder coating, but given the differing opinions on whether or not you need to disassemble them had me worried, and I didn't want to spend hours and $'s on a problem my existing calipers don't have.
3. My original rotors with 171K miles were still over 27mm thick and in perfect shape. Original is 28mm and minimum is 26mm. No need to spend $125+ on new rotors and discard perfectly good ones. I just cleaned them and scuffed them up with a scotch brite pad.
I spent around $130 total for Toyota pads, rebuild kit, a piston I ended up not really needing, brake fluid, and misc supplies. The calipers were in really good shape with only one piston in each one having corrosion that didn't easily wipe off.
I was intrigued by getting better braking performance, but I've never had any problems with mine even regularly towing a 4000lb boat in 100+ degree temps.
