Yea, I saw a ton of jeep rentals. But most of them were being very responsible. Again, side by sides and ATVs totally different story.
quick story from the trip:
My friends were camping off corkscrew gulch (close to Ironton) I was going back to town. We stopped and I was helping them find a spot when it started raining pretty hard and getting dark. I decided to head back before conditions degraded too much. The trail is pretty narrow and twisty in this area and it was dark and slippery. I was being careful and going a nice pace when some very bright lights came up behind me and got right on my bumper. I'm talking 2" off my bumper shining so bright that it was hard to see. I tapped my brakes to give them a hint... but I could just see the lights swerving back and fourth and could tell it was a side by side. It's raining pretty hard at this point and there is a bunch of runoff on the trail. The trail was way too narrow to pull over, so I sped up my pace a bit (I would say I was going 10-15mph) almost too fast for the conditions and I was having trouble seeing because my entire cab was lit up from the lights behind me. I was sliding around quite a bit... This went on for about a minute or two and then the dipshit tries to pass me. As he attempts this pass I swerve over to one side to give him as much room as possible. As he squeaks by he reaches up and shoots me the bird and hits a bump and goes up on two wheels (he's going very fast...30-40 (which is insane for these conditions). A child in the passenger seat looked like he was headed straight for the ground when the driver swerved and saved it.... I was in shock that someone would be so stupid, so I laid on my horn. Next thing I know two more ATVs pull up and the guy starts yelling at me telling me that I should have let them pass right away... that I almost caused an accident by honking my horn. I was pretty pissed at this point. so I gave him a good piece of my mind... we argued for about 5 minutes until I think he finally realized I was not going to back down and that he really had no leg to stand on. He finally just made some snarky comment about wishing me a "safe" trip home back to Texas as he finally sped off in his little toy I don't know where these people got the idea these trails are a high speed raceway. The dipshit who was arguing with me said something about you tourist going so dam slow think you own the place ...LOL. I told him my speed was 100% appropriate for the conditions and that if he was in such a hurry to get somewhere.. he should not be out there in the first place. WTF is wrong with these people.Side by sides are the jet skis of off-roading and seem to simply attract mostly throttle happy goons with 0 appreciation for anything besides themselves. I've had so many run ins when them locally that we have finally convinced the park rangers to crack down on them pretty hard core. They are always at the root of almost every injury accident, but there are still some responsible users... We have had many of them tear past groups of trucks spinning their tires throwing rocks on both vehicles and people. I know of a few private parks that have banned them permanently even though they still allow ATVs. For whatever reason, the side by sides just cause constant problems.
