I got this from Crutchfield.
For your 2010 Toyota 4Runner, you have 6x9 speakers in your front door along with a tweeter to compliment it located in the dash. For your rear door location, because of the Toyota factory size in this location, speaker replacement is possible with a 6 ½” speaker, but only with a bracket that we will provide you for free when you purchase the speakers from us. In the tail doors, the same size and cautions as associated with the rear door speakers. Please keep in mind that every speaker in the class of the sizes mentioned above will not fit. There are some depth and height requirements we will have to adhere to when installing speakers in your vehicle.

They do have tweeters.
Here is what we have;
2 x 3.5" coaxials Dash
2 x 6"x9" woofer only driver and passenger door
2 x 6.5" coaxials back passenger doors
2 x 6.5" coaxials back gate
1 x 10" woofer back cargo
Make sure you research the 3.5" speakers for fit, the front dash has very little wiggle room, depth. The others have more play.
I didn't change out the 6x9's or the woofer. Only low pass is going to the 6x9's so coaxials would be a waste.

I have the NAV system also, "15" speaker JBL.
I switched out everthing with JL Audio. Made a huge difference in highs and mids.

Any chance that you could list exactly which speakers you used in each location, along with any modifcations that were required to make them work?
I've been thinking about changing out my 8 speakers with JL Audio.

Does the "party mode" still function? How come you didn't replace the woofer?
May I ask how much this runs you and if you did it yourself?

It does not affect party mode. Stock woofers are tough. They usually require very little power to work. Aftermarket ones are built better, tighter and require more power. Changing the woofer would almost certainly require changing the amp or adding an amp.
Speakers were $5-600 with another $1-200 for help with the installation.

I just left Crutchfield,They show speakers in the front door, rear door, and tailgate for my 2010 SE w/o Nav & w/o JBL audio systmem. The dash speakers are not listed at all (even tough they are present.
Does anyone know the 'mounting depth' of the existing speakers? As factory speakers are way smaller than the after markets of the same size.

Infinity Kappa 3.5" coaxial or Infinity Reference 3.5" coaxial fit in dash. JL C2 3.5" coaxial and Polk 3.5" coaxial fit. All are pretty tight but will fit.
As for the doors, best to open the door and measure the depth. It really depends on how you will mount the speakers. I made my own mounts from MDF so I gained 3/4" depth and pretty much any 6" x 9" or 6.5" would fit.

If I am reading this correctly, you are asking about the "new" (2013) 4Runners.
I don't know about those.
If you are asking about your 2010 without JBL, then I would assume they are similar to my 2012 Trail, where there were:
1. 2-1/2" one-way speakers in the dash (don't think I'd call them "coaxials", though). They are filtered for the high frequency.
2. 6"x9" one-way speakers in the Front Doors, for the low frequency signals.
3. 6" one-way speakers in both Rear Doors and Rear Liftgate.
I replaced all factory speakers with Kappa Infinity. If you check my posts, you will find a list of speaker models and some pics on how to use the factory speakers as mounting adapters for the new ones. Also other posts on how to use the connecter from the so-called dash "tweeter" for your replacements, without cutting into the factory harness.
Others may chime in, insisting that an additional AMP and Sub-woofer are required. But that is another subject to be debated ad-infinitum.
Good luck with your upgrade if you choose to do it. I am extremely happy with mine.
