It's funny how you quote an article on the internet (from a questionable site like eHow no less) that supports your position then go on to talk about misinformation from articles on the internet. I'm not saying one is right or wrong, just pointing out the humour in it.
I guess what I am saying and what most people should know is that you cannot believe everything that you read on the internet or see on TV. You have to be able to determine what is true and what is not. I gave actual personal facts to back up what was said in the quote, so that is why I chose it as being true and correct. I have personally seen sugar ruin an engine. There is a lot of stuff not true on the internet and a lot of stuff that is. You have to be able to tell the difference.
ToyG, I know truth when I see it no matter where it comes form, even when it is from ehow. You are correct that a lot of information on ehow and other sites is wrong, but there are some things (not a lot) that are posted that are correct. The article that I quoted from is correct whether you believe it or not. As far as dissolving sugar, ever have a glass of Kool Aid? You can dissolve sugar in warm water and it will go right through your filter (or at least parts of it will). As far as not using a gas cap, that is a personal choice just like locking your car, removing the keys from the ignition, etc. If someone really wanted to steal your car they could tow it, so why have keys to a car? As you can see, it is a pretty silly argument because these precautions, including having a locking gas cap, do not stop all bad deeds. They only stop some of them or maybe divert them to some other type of bad deed (keyed car or cut tire instead of sugared gas tank). It's a personal decision on how much each person does to prevent crime to their property. What works for one person may not work for another. One other thing you said plays into it as well. Where you live makes a big difference. I don't live around folks who are currently doing the things that you posted (puncturing tanks, stealing cars from homes, etc.), so what I am doing only stops less experience bad folks (kids, etc.).
