5th Gen Official Complaint Thread to Toyota and Some Solutions

There is a fix for the ipod issue, btw. Mine did the same thing with my wife's 4th gen Nano, but we almost exclusively use bluetooth streaming now, so I haven't bothered to fix it. Bluetooth streaming is wayyyy better than the USB interface.

If there is please share. Ive had the dealer replace the stereo twice now with no change. Issue still persisits. I would stream but I have 12K songs on my Ipod and my phone wont hold nearly that many. I actually listen to that many too.

thanks again for posting that, Quentin. i found your previous post detailing TSB 0013-11 for the iPod USB input.

called my dealer today and they're ordering the parts for the driver's seat back TSB 0051-12 and will be doing the iPod TSB the same day they swap out my seat. i also plan to show them the headlight haze and complain about the overly aggressive VSC/TRAC along with the windshield ticking during the cold this winter. i want these items documented during the warranty period so i have some hope of resolving them whenever a solution is determined.

- Squeaks, rattles, creaks, ticks, noises, noises, noises. It drove me to insanity, now I pretend the chorus of unwanted noises as I drive home are actually my favorite band..... ya..... seriously it is bad.

- Throttle response it horrible. I get in my girlfriends 3rd gen with the old v6 and it is so much nicer to drive around town in stop and go traffic.

- The most "tinny" sounding doors and body sheet metal I have ever experienced on a vehicle. My solution, I spent a few hundred dollars and a weekend and plastered the inside of the door skins with a double layer of "rattle trap extreme" sound deadener.... it helps.

- Lackluster iPod interface, very annoying. For $hits sake, its 2012.... everyone and their mom uses a friggen iPod. Figure it out Toyota, a nice iPod interface isn't rocket science and your customers would GREATLY appreciate it.

- HID headlights.... again.... its 2012.... time to make the switch form halogen to xenon.... I expect things like this when I spend $40k on a vehicle.

- Memory seats..... really Toyota..... you couldn't add this simple little feature.... You spend the time to install a "PARTY MODE" button but not a memory button for my damn driver's seat.... wow...

- Extremely tired of all of the nanny features.... my passenger cannot safely input a destination into my navigation while I drive... WTF?!?!?!!?


TOYOTA.... HIRE ME AND I WILL TELL YOU THE SECRET TO MAKING THE PERFECT VEHICLE.... HINT>>> LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS!

My biggest complaint is the slide out cargo deck in the rear. Hate that thing...wishI could just have a flat cargo area.

not that i disagree with your list of grievances, but to be fair, there's, at the very least, a point of diminishing returns when it comes to "listening to your customers". Henry Ford famously said that if he'd asked his customers what they wanted they'd have said faster horses. this concept was illustrated perfectly in the classic Simpsons episode that gave us "The Homer"

Many complaints and "wishes" in this thread are justified. Some however are puzzling to say the least. With that said here are a few images that add some levity. The first picture is a favorite of mine as it accurately describes the whole process and the challenges of getting something right. Has someone done a write up this? Safety issues? I hate the brakes too, it definitely makes me think there's air in the lines and need to be bled. But from the threads I've read, it's completely normal.

thinking about doing a write up. no safety issues. this will only change the actual engagement height, once the brakes are engaging, they will have the same feeling it did before. the stock pedal height may portray a feeling that the brakes have air because of the travel

• Memory seats for driver AND passenger
• Heated and Cooled seats up front
• Heated seats in the rear.
• Factory option for ICON(-like) remote reservoir lifted/adjustable suspension (This could be standard on the Trail and options on the SR5 and Limited.)
• Factory aux battery tray and universal compressor bracket/mounting points on the firewall.

Lexus 470 would fit that bill.

That seems like a lot to ask haha. I still think it should have optional adjustable height suspension like the LC. It would be nice to have a system like the LR4 which gives it a 4.75'' lift i believe, but can be lowered down for gas mileage. The LR4 system is much faster than the LC one too. When I was test driving them, I was surprised on how fast that thing went up.

no new Nav, no new interface. all they replace is the "multimedia interface ECU".

i had exactly the same problem you describe. so far it's recovered from scrolling long lists (like by artist, for example) every time. to be clear, it still hits the verge of locking up entirely, but hitting the back button clears its head so you don't have turn off the audio and unplug/re-plug the iPod.

the only thing that will truly "fix" the brain-dead iPod UI (and other UX oddities) on the Toyota Gen 6 Nav is a firmware upgrade, and i'm reasonably certain that will never happen. Entune looks like a baby-step in the right direction but i underscore "baby-step". the decision to downsize the Nav screen for the "new and improved" system is typical WTF? thinking from a big corporation.
