5th Gen Official Complaint Thread to Toyota and Some Solutions

I posted my suggestions earlier in this post, but I need to add another one.

It has the turning radius of a bus, my GMC Sierra could turn better.

-hood flexes at speed (every truck I've owned recently has done this)
-nonfuncitonal scoop bump reflects sunlight straight into my face
-rear seat and cargo tray squeak over bumps
-sunroof doesn't open all the way
-lumbar support is halfway up my back (and I'm tall)
-interior looks cheap
-phone integration sucks, audio through bluetooth is crap--still listening thru AUX because have no better option
-doors make tin can sound when slammed, and each door makes a different noise
-front and rear bumper fit is so-so

All minor stuff.

Yeah, the Bluetooth audio from my iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 sounds great in my SR5.

Several of the above mentioned, and going from a 4th gen to my 2013 I lost my rear window down function, my LED Lights, auto close hatch, V8 and so on...

my complaint is on the seats.
The drives power seat sounds like it is chewing marbles when you move it, and the material is severely worn after only a few thousand miles. I have a 2003 SR5 that has less wear than this.

Bluetooth music through phone is crap? I think it might be your phone..

I have a Galaxy S3, Pandora sounds muffled and tinny through Bluetooth. Not the mp3s on the phone, just streaming.

Is he talking about the key fob? At some point the auto rear glass down button disappeared from the key fob. You used to also be able to raise and lower the power window by putting it in the tailgate keyhole...

I would like to see a grab handle on the drivers side "A" pillar like on the passenger side, my 07 tundra had one, so nice for getting in.

+1 on this one. I hate having it above the door.

One thing that bothers me is the rear plastic cover on the steering wheel. The top part doesn't even look like they bothered mounting it to anything, so it just sits loose, and creaks if you touch it.

Also the various large gaps in-between the interior panels. It is one thing to use cheap materials, but toyota didn't even bother sizing these pieces so they fit together properly.

Older post, but just this morning I laughed to myself when parking in the garage here at work. I have to come down a ramp (basement parking deck) and make an immediate U turn to the right to get to my normal parking spot. My Jetta would do it no problem, my Xterra could do it if I hugged the left side of the lane and turned hard to the right, and the 4runner doesn't even come close. Its like I miss by a whole car width. With the 4runner I don't even have a chance of making the turn.

Since I'm just sitting here being wasteful, I thought I would delight you gents with a visual! Who doesn't love a good not-to-scale drawing??! YOU CAN EVEN SEE ME PARKED AND WAVING!!

Maybe I've had too much coffee this afternoon....... :noidea:

LOL awesome diagram. The 4Runner has a very similar turning radius-out of my driveway (very tight) as our 05 Accord had. However, it is much larger so when you get into tight spaces it feels liek you barley fit anywhere. I feel like I can turn almost as tightly as the Accord, but it really makes no difference because parking spaces seem to be getting smaller....

Squeaks
-sunroof
-somewhere from the right front, no one knows where... likes to go wiggity wiggity wiggity when the truck is moving.

Rattles
-cargo tray, has been that way since day one, it's also broken now and won't move because I put 1800 pounds of stuff into the back of the truck when I moved. Was hoping breaking cargo tray would fix rattle, it didn't.

Electrical gremlins
-backup camera sometimes goes dead, comes back when truck is restarted
-sometimes on start up, fan from HVAC won't work, even when left on and on one of the speed settings, turning it to off and back on fixes this
-sometimes the compass just gets lost. I'm guessing it's the alien spaceships they keep under Mt. Cheyenne interfering with its bearing.

HVAC
-high pitched wail from windshield defogger

Entune
-takes over a minute to handshake with my androids, sometimes has to be kicked by selecting "bluetooth" from the input menu to remind it there's a phone in the truck
-navigation is just worthless

And stuff I just don't like
-surprisingly large turning radius for a vehicle its size
-engine sometimes behaves weird at high altitude (over 10k feet) not sure if it's fuel or weather conditions
-drivetrain binds way too easily in 4x4 (even in snow and ice) when turning
-rear diff doesn't always like to wake up and engage
-when the body is frozen to the frame by giant globs of ice, the truck makes a horribly pathetic popping sound as it drives along--I'm giessing the body motions are slowly tearing the plastic panels off of their anchors
-air induction pump is useless, and a ticking time bomb
-at certain times of year the hood scoop blazes searing light into your eyeballs, especially when driving up steep hills in the morning

-Automatic temperature control won't work for passenger
-Key fob won't always unlock rear liftgate
-passenger seat fuse keeps blowing

Smells
-carpets and HVAC smell musty even after a shampoo and cleaning

Stuff I just don't like
-turning radius
-undercarriage is proper rusty

My 5th Gen turns on a dime compared to my 2004 Acura TL. That thing might as well be a school bus.

That's what you get when you stuff a transversely mounted V6 into a FWD car, and still have to have room for CV axles and a transmission.

I swear the wheels move 2-3 degrees with a full turn of the steering wheel.
