5th gen or 6th gen?

quick

I have recently bought a 2014 T4R and was trying to figure out if it should be 5th gen or 6th gen. I've kind of heard both. It is very little change from a 2013 not sure about a 2012. So which is it?

quick...............

The 6th Gen should be out for the 2017 model year, since the 4runner is on a 7year refresh cycle. I would hope they would keep the body on frame, since the highlander already fills the niche of unibody suv.

Yeah, I don't see them turning the 4R into a Highlander, since the FJ is gone and the Landcruiser costs a fortune; they need a small, BOF offroader. (I hope)

The 6th gen should be out for the 2016 model year. The generations are 6 years long thus far....going by model year.

Edit:
Ok scratch what I said

Model years:
Gen 1: 84.5-89 (5.5 yrs)
Gen 2: 90-95 (6 yrs)
Gen 3: 96-02 (7 yrs)
Gen 4: 03-09 (7 yrs)
Gen 5: 10-? 16, 17, 18 lol

1st and 2nd gens were 6 year cycles. 3rd and 4th were each 7 years. I'd put money on at least 7 years for 5th gen given the low volumes.

In related news, here are other lifespans for Toyota BOF....

FJ Cruiser - 8 years (only one gen)
Sequoia - 1st gen 6 years; 2nd gen 7 years (through MY 14 - and talks of discontinuing after 2014 MY, but I haven't seen anything recently on this)
Tacoma - 1st gen 10 years; 2nd gen 11 years (will be same gen through at least MY 15)
Tundra - 1st gen 9 years; 2nd gen 8 years (through MY 14, and will continue)

My guess is they'll lengthen the life cycle of the 5th gen closer to that of the Tacoma. It will save $$$ and it's getting to the point that the 4runner has very little competition like the Taco.

I don't see them ever going CUV with the 4runner. They'll cancel it before they do that because they've already got the highlander.
