5th Gen owners! Hows the ride?

So my dad offered me his 4th gen 4runner since i used to use it quite often for work and school. I turned him down I opted for something smaller, I ended up investing in a Subaru WRX. So he offered the 4th gen (2004 Limited) to my brother since he was in a bind and he took it.

My father just put down a down payment on a 2013 Blizzard Pearl Limited Runner. I dunno if the pics are still up in my garage but the 4th gen was also white, and we also own a chevy van thats white =]. He made the order at Lee's Toyota over here in Queens New York. According to the invoice its the limited model with all standard equipment plus the navigation package and running boards. After all was said and done the driving out price was 45500. What do you guys think decent deal? Only thing is, they have to track one down. None of the other local dealers had a Limited in White, he was dead set on it being white so we are gonna have to wait until they can track one down.

I just wanted some feedback from current 5th gen owners, possibly limited owners, doesnt really matter i guess.

Hows the ride? Any issues? Any heads up you can give us, what to look out for in terms of maintenance? As far as maintenance goes, stick with what the manual specifies or is there anything extra to do to keep this vehicle running smooth.

I plan on reading through the 5th gen forums tonight so some of my questions might be answered, but feedback and input is always awesome from you guys!

And Welcome Aboard!! Ya know, I don't really know all of the particulars in your quest to find the "right vehical" to park in your driveway each night.

But I will say that if it's a 5th Gen 4Runner that's on your wish list this year....."BUY WITH CONFIDENCE"!!!

And as far as the 3 trim levels (SR5, Trail, and Limited), well, you'll get that all figured out, once your plans are well determined :fishing:

Not true with the LE (from what everyone says here). Yes, our SR5's have it, but they are not buying one.

agree with westwind - and i think you'll find similar feedback related to the ride.

i test drove the sr5 and then the limited and found a substantial difference in turning and stopping with the limited's suspension, i'm happy with the ride.

Really? I thought they have the same suspension. Only XREAS is the option.

You'll hear plenty of complaints about Xreas, a lot of guys take it out. The springs and shocks should be the same across all three trim levels.

Yes, and that is what makes the big difference. Just as KDSS lessens the body roll in the corners on the TE (if selected as an option).

One thing most people complain about are the tires. It a handling issue not ride but close enough. Upgrading the tires has greatly improved handling for just about everyone. You don't need to install bigger tires, unless you want to, just better quality. Search the site and you'll find lots of threads on the subject.

You'll hear plenty of complaints about Xreas, a lot of guys take it out. The springs and shocks should be the same across all three trim levels.

XREAS is fine for a daily driver. It's a very nice set up actually. Off road it does just fine as well (I took my LTD to the FJ Summit unlifted). If you plan on lifting the truck you'll end up deleting the xreas suspension, but the same holds true for the stock SR5 or TE suspension.

I ordered mine with very specific options (i.e. everything) in black and tan and it took about 2 months for mine to come off the boat. You'll be happy waiting for precisely what you want.

Plenty of info here on modifications, but really its a good vehicle out of the gate. The main complaint my wife has is the lack of lumbar controls for the passenger seat.

The pizza cutter tires are okay for city driving, but the very narrow selection of replacements make it one item I would switch when they tires are done. that does mean switching the rims as well because the OEM 20 inch alloys are narrow (7 inches). This semi inspired wheel/tire combo was selected for the mileage benefits. As mentioned, search the forum here for other wheel/tire options when the time comes.

It's true, you don't have to install larger, wider tires with an exaggerated tread pattern.
But if you're interested in driving the ultimate Limited road machine, why not go for it??

You don't even have to alter or customize your new truck; you can just "Buy~&~Fly"!!

Drive out cost, taxes, navi package, running boards, everything. All though in this case it isnt drive out they need to find us one.

Yes, me and my dad know what we like, know what we want, and dont mind waiting for it, mainly when purchasing a vehicle anyway .

Thats another thing, i didnt mention it but this WILL be a daily driver. I used to do a bit of mudding in the 4th gen when I had it, but the 5th gen MAY not be seeing any of that besides the on and off snow we get in NY, tri state area.

Even when we were getting the 2004 runner, we stuck with the limited because it had a better ride when we test drove the SR5 and Limited. I, at the time, didnt really notice, my my dad since he has back problems pays close attention to this. I didnt get a chance to test drive the 5th gen SR5 or Limited, I assume my dad did since he made the down payment already, either that or hes going based on the 4th gen. Either way he loves the 4runner, so do I and hes happy with it.

Weve always been fans of 4runners specifically the Limited's. The 4runnner always looks great in the driveway
