5th gen rear spoiler removal

Has anyone removed the late, (2015+) 5th gen rear spoiler? I would like to remove mine for a mod but dont want to tear it up. There are 4 bolts that hold it but it is still not free so I am thinking there are clips but I dont want to break it so havent pulled hard. Any pics with it off?

Fairly certain the rear wiper housing is integrated with the spoiler, so even IF you can take the cover off you will have a mechanical system exposed

*Edit I thought you meant leave it off - sorry don't have photos nor do I recall seeing any but the FSM should have what you need if you subscribe to Toyota TIS for a couple days

Appreciate the response, yeah, will put it back on. Looked at the TIS site but for the late years they dont show as having access to the Repair\Service manual, just some misc bs that I dont need is all I would get access to. Found this site but havent pulled the trigger yet.

You have to pull the wiper off and the wiper cover. There's a nut holding the wiper down and a collar washer (at least there was on my 2011).

Thanks, I saw that but it its tight up toward the top before hitting it it so I was thinking that couldnt be all that is holding it. Maybe thats all there is to it, I'll look again.

Hoping that someone that has removed it responds so I can have a definitive answer lol. Its a new 2019 with 500 miles on it now so Im a chicken chit for not forcing anything just yet. Already threw on the XD Hids but the spoiler is a different story.

Just went and looked again and it seams as though something is still holding the corners on pretty tight. Also, the wiper area is a 2nd piece so its probably going to need to be separated from the spoiler to get it off because the lower piece around the wiper sort of cups part of the wiper assy.

Aint this a bish.

Super bump for this thread.

Checked mine and i had just started to rub into the bare metal with a teeny bit of rust. I sanded and hit the spots with Por-15 then applied new felt tape in the areas that Toyota neglected and or screwed up.

It was also a good way to deep clean under there with some good cleaner and treat the plastics and rubber with 303.

Check your spoilers ladies and gentlemen.

I don't know how hard it is to take off, but during the dealer delivery prep (wash) they broke mine. They said "i could take it home" and they'd would order me a new one. I suggested he get the F*** out on the lot and take one off another super white 4runner. I left with out the 4Runner that day and the next morning the GM from the dealership called me to tell me my 4Runner was ready.

Wife smashed mine backing into a tree branch and when I installed the new one I laid a bead of silicone around the perimeter where the marks are for the crappy, thin felts........nice and cushy and no rubbing! ( and the crummy felts are obscenely priced!)

Those are the green locating pins and I didn't break any pulling it off.......pull evenly and straight out and work your way around slowly. They pushed back in perfectly and tight! They are strong, and you think something is going to break when you pull the spoiler off!

Nothing broke when I pulled it so I re-used everything and didn't buy the felts either, but used silicone instead.

Thanks, it looks like the best way to remove (after removing the bolts) is to push up on the spoiler to release the retaining clips and pull the spoiler straight back.
