I currently have a 4 door hatchback that makes a little over 300 ft/lbs in 3000 lbs car, it's pretty peppy and fun to drive. The 4Runner feels like it choking out, but I live at 5,500' and I spend a lot my weekends and free time at twice that, without forced induction they say engines lose about 15-20% of their power at 6,000 feet.

I think I'm gonna go for it though.

the 4runner has more than enough power, put your foot in it. I never understood why people want power for playing in mountains... slow and steady, give me some low end and all is well. My best trail rig was a 4cyl TJ geared. Never broke anything

3) my driver door arm rest is a bit crunchy. Could not duplicate at my regular maintenance service the other day so didn't have the dealer take a look.
4) I have sliding rear seats and the back rest on the 2/3 section had some play. Dealer agreed and said a new seat frame needs to be ordered and installed at next service.

I had these issues as well.

1. I pulled the door cards off and filled the area under the armrest with epoxy. The arm rest doesn't flex any more; no annoying squeak/crunch!

2. I built a custom tool box which presses up against the middle row of seats so they don't jump around. My passenger front seat still does but I'll deal with it. It just seems that they don't have tight enough tolerances in the seat tracks. :wtf:

As a fairly new 4R TEP owner, living in CO, I too spent a lot of time in the mountains (landscape/nature photographer). Driving up I-70 last Friday for the 1st time (had done 285 & 50 over Monarch already), I used the manual shifting to keep the RPM's up. Staying in 3rd or 4th got me up over the passes without any issues and my fuel mileage wasn't horrible (wasn't great, but wasn't horrible).

Nice choice, I think you'll find that it has adequate power for our mtns and driving up to summit county in a snowstorm is a breeze. This past winter I drove past a stuck snow plow in my 4runner, it was smooth as could be. The xreas shocks do well at 75mph on I 70 as well. Haha

We have a 2011 with 45,000. Just got back from a road trip from NJ to Maine. It was a real pleasure.
However, I am certain that it needs a new transmission. It shudders from 1-2 gears after it gets warm. There is a TSB on this issue for 2010, 2011 Runners.

If you decide on this truck, take it for a drive, get it warmed up, then let it cool down for 15 min. Drive again gently. By this time you would be able to feel the shudder. It feels like very mild rumble strips before a toll.

Oh, and I have also felt the prop shaft thunk, too. Just not often.

Averaged 22mpg to Maine. Not bad!

Yes. GM and the others pay them. JD power has always been full of crap.
