I've asked my local dealer and called URD about release dates for the 5th Gen SC, but the answer is the same; in production.

Does anyone have any (inside) news on when either TRD or URD will go into production of a 5th gen SC?

My understanding is that both are working on prototypes or better yet, have prototypes working.

I'm just real keen on this upgrade as I work in SLC and live in PC where my commute involves quite the "hill" and keeping or planning a slush fund is critical for this purchase.

Just save up about $6,000.00 and if they ever start selling it you can buy one. If not, you have 6K to buy something else.

"In production" is a misstatement, "in design and testing" would be more accurate.

URD has had a running prototype for a little over a year. See .....

..... and start at #154. This is the most public information I've seen.

The FJ Summit happens soon, and if there is a seriously-for-sale S/C, I'd imagine that will be the place for URD to make an announcement.

Hmm, $6,000.00? Bet that's several Benjamins light unless you can DIY.

I am pretty sure I saw your rig headed east bound just past Parley's Summit last night around 5pm. I was heading west. Looking great and clearly stood out among the traffic. I could see the need for an SC with your lift and that "hill" but watch out for that $50-60K investment mark!

Ive been looking for you in the neighborhood JohnJerk!

The pass isnt to bad with the lift/tires since I also upgraded to an afe CAI and magnaflow exhaust. However, when I am carrying passenger, towing or have the truck is packed, I am sure I'll notice the sluggishness.

As you know, being at attitude also has its disadvantages that a supercharger would correct.

many times...your attitude will determine your altitude..

a S/C would be the nitzschizzel for towing too!

Sorry folks, the supercharger development got delayed as we worked hard on getting the UCON-EMS launched. The UCON is wrapping up and shipping so we can get back to wrapping up the supercharger system.

The prototype has been running flawlessly for over a year now and runs perfectly. Not one single hiccup through the whole process.

Hey Gadget,
you guys run into a hiccup on this? Or just not end up marketable?

I talked to Gadget a few months ago and he said they were held up trying to source some type of connector for the ECU.

I'm sure the challenge with an SC kit for the 5th gens is not really the mechanical stuff, but the electronics and tuning.

biggest, bestest blower in the world is more useless than a nice set of tits on a boar pig without proper fuel mapping

drove a fj cruiser with the trd supercharger...what a disappointment.
drove a 03 tundra and a 2010 tundra with the trd supercharger.. WOW! :jaw:

I'm also in SLC but travel to PC frequently, one of my main reasons for wanting the SC is just for Parley's. Looking forward to more news!

First> I HATE THIS THREAD. Every time I see it I think there is actual news on the SC release. :frusty:

So questions on the gears:
What rpm is the truck doing at 80 mph?
How is speedo indication changed?
Any reduction to mileage range?
I can't imagine my around town mileage would get much worse than the 11-12 I get now right?
Any negatives I am not thinking about?
What brand gears have ya'll used?
How many guys have done this? I can only think of a couple: Harper, Jeremy556
Approximate cost?

I mostly drive within the city now, but still want the truck set up for long road trips.

Also, I am a bit leery of a gear swap because I only had a gear change in one previous car. Put in 3.73s, detroit tru trac, and fancy metal matrix driveshaft and picked up a vibe I was never fully able to get rid of. Even though I thought the place I went to should have had the expertise to do a gear change in a domestic Ford it turned out poorly.

With 33" tire, it will be at 2674 rpms at 80mph, compared to 2188 stock with stock tires. Helpful site

Interestingly, the 4Runner uses the wheel speed sensors for the odo/speedo, so those readings are the same as before the gear change (slightly less than actual with 33" tire). I was happily surprised I didn't need a speedo healer.

Can't speak for anyone else, but my around town and highway mileage both went up a few MPG, like 11-12 to 13-15. Highways around here pretty much all 75mph. I also have roof rack, full bud skids, shrock front bumper, 33" mtrs, and several hundred pounds of extra gear. Before, I could pretty much only use 5th gear going down hill, or with a tail wind.

The only gears available for the rear end are Nitro and stock Toyota in 4.56.

A few others have re-geared, Bimrunner, WarnerD9, maybe one or two others.

I would recommend using East Coast Gear Supply. They'll ship you complete diffs and you swap them in. Cost with adding a front ARB locker was about $2400.

It's my favorite mod for sure. Cruise control works now (mostly, it still does some stupid things once in a while), I can accelerate in 5th gear, on the highway it stays in 5th most of the time, only downshifts to 4th on steeper grades, no more 3rd gear to maintain speed, better engine braking, and in 4lo it is much easier to go slow, much more controlled. It feels like it is 1000+ lbs pounds lighter, it can actually break the tires loose if you step on it.

Most of the possible negatives would be from improper installation/setup, which if you use ECGS, shouldn't be an issue. Possible less MPGs, but if you have bigger tires and lots of extra weight, it should go up. Extra RPMs on the highway.

Re gear does seem like it would make a 5th gen run nice. The motor has pretty good tq once the VVT-i kicks in, but it simply can't stay there due to the tranny and gearing. It would seem that the 4.56 rear end would allow it to stay in the sweet spot when needing to scoot.

is that how it feels?

I'm wondering if it still stumbles due to tq mgt in the ECU.

I think I will re-gear when I decide to do lockers.

This thread reminds me of that hot chick you keep going on dates with, but every time you're at her door and hoping to laid, she slams it shut in your face.

How about a Tontine as to whether a 5th gen supercharger will become available before they discontinue the 5th gen?

Where is this Gen-5 Supercharger? Its been in development for 6years? Wouldn't it be easier tho drop a 5.7 I-Force from the Tundra into the 4Runner?
