You know what I find funny...
I have been looking at all kinds of vehicles and imagining what their capabilities are based solely on looks.
Which vehicles are might be capable of going 100 mph, or 150, or 200. Which ones could climb a 60 degree incline? Or which could ford 24 inches of water.
And based solely on the looks, the 5th Gen is far less capable in all regards than the 4th Gen.
Now... this has NO BASIS in reality. Just because of BMW X5 or Acura MDX look like they can do 150 mph, doesn't mean they actually can. And despite looking like it could climb almost anything, the Hummer H3 might not able to.
But the 5th Gen sure does look slower and less capable than the 4th Gen... IMHO.

I usually wait a year or two before buying into the next generation. When I had a 3rd Gen, I waited until 2004 to get the 4th Gen and then traded up to a 2006 and have had the 2006 for 4 years. I like to wait because Toyota is notorius for adding an option or modification that you wished you had waited for and I also like to wait so that the potential bugs that sometimes pop up in a new generation hopefully are ironed out by the second production year
I have always had Toyotas and I notice that Toyota has the tendency to delete an option that existed on a previous generation regardless of what model we are talking about and adding it back at the the mid-generation refresh(one step forward to steps back)so LED tail lights and in windshield aerial could possibly make a return to the 4Runner.
The most desired option I think would be optioning back the V8 mated to a 6 speed auto which I hope would be added by spring of 2010.
