5th gen TPMS Bypass help

Anyone try to bypass the tpms on a 5th gen?

I run two two sets of wheels up here in Canada and i refuse to pay the stealership over $120 to reset the system twice a year. I see it done on the 4th gen but not on 5th gen. I just dont want to see the light for 6 month a year.

Spend $40 on a cable and pirated techstream from eBay, or have a tire shop reprogram. If you want to run wheels without TPMS and not see the light, easiest thing to do is remove the panel and remove the led.
 
I'd be totally interested in the bypass if somebody could figure it out. I had it on my fourth GEN and it was awesome . Airing down for off-road ! switching wheels and a variety of other reasons I really liked it. I'm in an adult responsible owner I check my air so I don't have to worry about it
 
Just to clarify, there is no way to disable the TPMS that I am aware of, even with a Techstream cable. You can reprogram the car's computer to look for different TPMS serial numbers so that you can have sensors in your summer and winter tires, but you can't just shut it off entirely.

FYI I have a Techstream cable but find it kind of a PITA to use (especially considering all the cables that are ~$20 are weird Chinese knockoffs that have a very convoluted setup). If you don't mind shelling out a little extra the $120 ATEQ TPMS Tool is a lot easier to use. If you are only swapping wheels on one vehicle you don't even need to use a computer, you just use the "Summer" and "Winter" buttons to learn & program.
 
Sorry for a dumb question but why cant you just mount all the sensors in the spare?

PS Just a flashing small green light? It could be worse my Benz (soon to be sold) beeps and over takes the entire display between the speedometer and tachometer. You have to keep hitting back on the steering wheel controls.

I am in the same boat you are. I would look for a good tire shop that sells programmable TPMS sensors and have them clone your existing sensor codes on your factory wheels to the TPMS sensors in your winter wheels. I had that done on my 2016 TEP and paid $250 for 4 sensors, coding them, and installing them.

Because the codes are the same, when I switch between winter and summer wheels the TPMS sees the same codes and does not freak.

ATEQ TPMS Quickset is what I use and cost effective. We have four cars with dedicated winter wheels and three of four cars require TPMS programming since they have a direct TPMS system. The other car has an indirect TPMS system but there are disadvantages (prone to false positives and slow to detect flat tire). The Quickset (can handle up to 4 cars) is very easy to use. I would say buy the tool then program your car as required.
 
In previous vehicles I have seen people take them off and put them in a PVC pipe (sealed on both ends) and pressurize that so the sensors think that they are working properly. Toss this in the back somewhere and call it a day.

I got this for the wife's Highlander. Very easy to use and quick. I think it can work on up to 4 vehicles as well. This is definitely the cheapest way to do it.

This is what I did on my 4Runner's winter set. This is the easiest option, but a little bit more expensive. I like that I can just swap and go without the OBD piece (though, it's honestly cheaper and just as easy to use the ATEQ handheld). If I did my wife's winter set first (and already had the ATEQ), I would have just done the same on mine rather than finding the programmable TPMS.
 
I had this problem with a 2017 Tacoma when changing to winter tread tires. Bought 4 sensors and had them cloned to the original sensors and the system did not know the difference. Cost me about $125 for the sensors and cloning.

I just ordered 4 steel wheels identical to my spare tire wheel, to go with a set of Cooper Snow Claws that will be studded. I'll use these 3 months of the year and am just now studying TPMS from the ground up having never thought about it much in the past.

I'm having my Coopers mounted to the steel rims in two weeks. If anyone could provide a link (Amazon works for me) to the sensors I need to have on hand for the install I'd appreciate it.
The vehicle is a 2021 4Runner Off-road Premium if that matters.

I’m just wondering why you need snow tires in Roan Mountain Tennessee? I literally live right down the street from you in Mars Hill North Carolina and haven’t seen a need for snow tires yet. Of course I’m new here am I missing something?

I'm at a bit over 4000 feet. We've already had 8 inches 2 weeks ago in the driveway. This shot from a few years ago, but will happen quite a few times each winter.
At this home I've personally experienced -30F (1982 I think it was). I'm actually on Ripshin Lake.
Granted the lake is in a funny spot geographically, between Roan Mountain proper (the mountain not the city) at 6280 feet, and Ripshin Ridge at 4916 feet but often we're colder at Ripshin (the lake) then places like Blowing Rock which are higher in elevation. In fact on my deck the highest I've ever seen is 78F.

OH, and something else. You're on the dry side of the mountain range. My better-half worked in Asheville for years. We lived in Johnson City at that time. She told me many times how it was snowy wet on the TN side but nothing on the NC side. Maybe not as drastic as living in eastern versus western Washington state or Oregon but you get the idea.

I guess you have a point, I sit at 3860 ft in Wolf Laurel but I’m on the east side of the mountain. It seems most of the bad weather comes out of the Northwest so I’m shielded a bit. Right now it’s blowing a gale and rainy I can hear the wind and see tress dancing but it’s not really windy here.
