I read on a thread here somewhere that the 5th gen wheels have 1 inch less backspacing (so no need for wheel spacers) I found a nice set I can get for cheap.

are you talking about the early 5th gen trail/FJ wheels likes these?
or the newer 2014+ wheels?
if its the older ones then yes they have less backspacing than the OEM 4th gen wheels, at least the 17inch limited wheels. i do however still run a 1.25 inch spacer in the front to help clear my 35x12.50s. i would think for a smaller/narrower tire a spacer wouldnt be needed. and besides those wheels are sweet and you should get them anyways.

I would like to go with something like a 33x10.5 and not have to use wheel spacers.

4th gen wheels: 17x7.5", 30mm offset
5th gen wheels: 17x7.5", 15mm offset (Non-TRD, extra ~0.6" suspension clearance/wheel poke)
I am running FJ wheels with identical offset as 5th gen wheels with my 285s. I clear the control arms, but do rub on the front swaybar at full lock. I have aftermarket control arms, 79.3% sure it'll clear stock, but don't quote me on that...

Your 5th gen specs aren't entirely accurate. See the link I posted above.

Hmm. That's the first I've seen where people have said its anything other than 7.5 (except limited 20s and TRD 7") Thanks
