5th Gen WindowSox

Hey All,

New member. In cruising the forums, I've seen a couple of posts/pics from folks that are using WindowSox (Car & Vehicle Window Sun Shades, UV Protection, Fresh Air Flow & Parental Privacy - Home - Window Sox USA & Canada) on their 5th Gens as a sunscreen/window mesh. However, neither the U.S. nor Australian website for WindowSox list the 5th Gens as an option, and a call to the office in Australia yielded the same answer.

I'm looking to get a set for my 2013 TE for camping, and I'm hoping someone that is using these on a 5th gen could tell me (& the community) what size/model you ordered and if you had to mod them to fit? Tried contacting the few folks who have posted pics of them via PM, but no luck thus far.

Thanks much!

Sorry, not familiar with the exact product you're asking about, but wanted to give what little help I can...

I have a black SR5 with black leather in Hawaii, and it would ROAST if I didn't use HeatShield. I tried many products, and this one is far superior. Tight, custom fit and thick/heavy. Totally makes a difference, not like the cheap one-size fits all products at auto parts stores. heatshieldstore dot com. They make front/rear/side panels.

If you ordered one from them it would have to be the Prado 150 (it's the Euro 4runner)

Haha, yes they do come in pairs.

Car & Vehicle Window Sun Shades, UV Protection, Fresh Air Flow & Parental Privacy - Home - Window Sox USA & Canada

They sound like a good idea for warm weather camping. I'm going to get some or hack up one of my old tents and use the screen to make one. OP, I'm pretty sure someone with a 5th gen posted on here that the 4th gen size worked.

My first backup plan was to get the 4th Gen, and my second fallback was the Prado 150. Still hoping someone on the forums has a set for the 5th Gen and can confirm which ones they ordered.

Also, as a backup, anyone with a 4th Gen and 5th Gen kind enough to measure the rear doors and confirm they're not materially different dimensions?

Thanks for all the responses thus far!

Just a side note but I made some for my old 80 series LC. Just need some screen material and magnet rolls to frame the screen with. Cut screen and magnet rolls to desired shape and glue on the magnets. Just pop them on over the window opening when stopped at campground. Cheap alternative. I didn't use them while driving so it worked fine. Looking at the website you linked above they mention them wrapping over the top of the door frame….so I wouldn't think it would be too are to get the screen material and wrap over the top of door frame and have a magnet to attach to inside.

there are some links on the Ih8mud website of guys that have built them for their land cruisers

10 to 1 says you'll have one mysteriously disappear in the dryer. :suspicious:

Does the washer or dryer eat them? I never pair up my socks between the two to determine where they go missing. I recently had one sock go missing when doing laundry. No ransom note. Not having closure is the most difficult part.

That he could be a she after glancing thru that build thread.
Like that product. May need to check application for my Jeep.

Thanks everyone for the feedback thus far -- glad I'm not the only one that thinks they look like a good item. Especially so for someone DIY-challenged like me.

Still hoping someone that's actually bought a set for their 5th gen might notice this thread and chime in. Or that someone with both a 4th and 5th might (please?) measure their doors to confirm they're same dimensions. No neighbors or friends with a 4th Gen so that I can do it myself.

I'll give it a few more weeks and then probably pull the trigger on either some for the 4th Gen or for the Prado 150 (still researching to see if I can come up with some more details on the Prado relationship to 5th Gen body). Wanting to get a set before camping season starts, and these are a definite must in AZ!

Run down to lowes. Buy a few yards of screen. Find the magnet strips (qtr inch in width and cut to length) Cut the screens larger than your windows and fold the screens back over the magnets and use a hot glue gun to seal the magnets in.

Place over your windows and enjoy for $10 and an hour of your time

I can confirm that ordering the size for the 4th Gens will not work on the 5th gens. ElegantViolence suggested the 3rd gens, and when I measured the doors on my old 3rd gen, I could see that maybe they will fit. I ordered a set and will update with pics when they arrive and <crosses fingers> fit.

We should start a collections of Mis-purchased 4th gen parts
