5th generation wheels into a 4th generation

Today I put some brand new take off wheels (17x7) from a 5th to a 4th gen; my stock 2003 SR5. With Toyo Open Country ATIII 265/65R17. Very nice fit. The rims set the tires out very slightly wider.

While my truck was getting smogged, I talked to a guy that had put 5th gen tires/wheels on a gen3. They were new take offs and picked up the set for only $120.

Sometimes you get lucky....

Those look good on your truck!

Yep. I picked up a set of 2021 4Runner wheels and tires with 500 miles on them for $500. Looks great.

Now I have to replace the tired suspension so the 'stock' tires don't rub :worthless

That's looking good guys. I may look around for some myself. Are those different than the stock 4th gen tires? Does that affect your speedometer?

I see a guy in town here has a set of 4 for $1200, think that's nuts?

Here's my 2003 with some early model 5th gen trail edition wheels and 255/75r17 Duratracs. Great looking wheel, came plastidipped black and were kind of faded and gross, might rattle can them a gloss black as my wife wasn't too happy when I peeled the dip off them as this is mainly her car.

Yeah that's nuts. Most people around me want stupid money for them too. But every now and then I'll see sets for 300-500. Can usually find just the wheels for around there though. They look great painted, or if you can find a set of the earlier version of this wheel without the black accents I think they look better. I'm not really a fan of the black and machined surface style wheels everybody is doing nowadays.

Hey TLar25 love the stance you're running there. I'm putting on some 255/75/17 's here soon and trying to pick a wheel offset etc. - do you have wheel spacers in that pic or is it just the lower +15 offset of the 5th gen wheels helping to push them out?

Yeah I've got 1.25" wheel spacers on. I had 285/70r17's before these tires without any wheel spacers, and had a little bit of rubbing on the frame at full lock and a little bit on the front of the fender liners which I trimmed. No rubbing now with the smaller 255/75r17's but idk if they would have rubbed on the liners as I had already trimmed them. I am much happier with the look of these tires after I installed the wheel spacers to widen the stance a little bit. Didn't love how it looked without them, a little too tucked for my liking. I have 35x10.5 Kenda's on a Lexus as well, and might try out a 33x10.5 on my 4runner next. (If the prices ever come back down [emoji43])

Gotcha thanks. That definitely reinforces my belief that these skinny tires look best with low to negative offset wheels or with spacers

Very nice looking rig. Great looking wheels, and I love the height/stance of your setup!

No way I would pay that, but to each their own. I'd wait for someone to unload a set after buying aftermarkets. Just keep an eye out, a reasonably priced set will come up eventually.
