Yes it can and in my opinion SHOULD be done if your buddy has the money to do it. Since it is a 4WD the front diff would need to be dropped by means of a custom fabricated bracket. This is not as costly as some may believe it to be, just do your research or make friends with someone with a welder and some experience. This bracket would need to be made to where the CV joints were at an angle comparable to stock or just a little bit higher. The other task would be to extend all the lines that come from the truck down to the wheels/axles so that when you flex the suspension, there will be enough slack to no rip them apart. This includes brake lines and ABS lines. I'm sure there are probably more like your parking brake but you would have to get under it and look.
The other problem I see with it is the arms and stabilizers that connect to the rear axle as well as the components up front for the IFS that would be pushed way to far down. The rear can be taken care of pretty easily if you know what to extend, the front would be quite a bit harder, but I think you can work out some kind of long travel kit to work on it.
On another note, this would be pretty pricey, and as someone stated before, you could go with a 3" suspension lift and then a body lift as well. My buddy down the street did a 3" suspension and he fab'd up a 4" BL on his 03. He said it wasn't too hard and he has had no problems with the steering links at all.
Just make sure you do your research and work out everything that needs to be done before you start. Pull it apart and work out what you need. Then put it back together, go out and build what you need, and build it all in at once.

And just to add this in, Alex has since ditched the 7" lift for something that is actually useful off road.
Look into putting a Fabtech 6" lift from an FJ into a 4Runner if you are really serious about this.

why in the hell would post i this for the hell of it. my buddy asked if it could be done and i wasnt sure so i asked u guys. and he probably wont be able to just cause the money factor but thanks for the info anyways. learn new stuff everyday
