6th Generation and engine options

What engine would you select on your 6th Gen

So following this, are you saying that Ford, Dodge, Chevy, Jeep and Nissan are wrong providing different engine options for the same model? All of them are selling tons of trucks as far as we know.

Optional engines are options. You can stick to a small engine if you want to be fuel efficient, but you would have the option to go bigger if your needs are different (like hauling). Toyota may have choose not do it, but it does not mean that they are right to do so.

People here already shown that there is an interest for this.

Dude.
The 4Runner is part of the Land Cruiser Prado line and they are all produced in Japan. The Prado (a re skinned 4Runner) offers other engines depending what part of the world in which they are going to be sold. The 4Runner now gets one engine. Pretty sure you can't buy an F150 in Australia with all the engine options available here. I KNOW you cannot buy a Jeep or Dodge in the middle east with the same engine options as you can here.
We drive a Japanese vehicle that is produced for global consumption under different names, body panels and engines. We here in NA get the 4Runner with a V6, based on what the customer wants. The guys in SA get a manual transmission and a diesel. So does Australia.

And yes, Toyota does it much differently than Jeep or Ford or Chevy. But what they all have in common? Making money. Every single one of them do what it takes to make a profit. Right now they feel that only offering one engine for the Tacoma and 4Runner is what makes them the most profit.

In other news I just spent an hour on the Toyota Australian website looking at Fortrunners. . . . Did you know that under accessories Toyota offers a snorkel, various offroad bumpers from the factory?!?!?! I mean I know we don't have the Australian Outback here stateside, but damn those things would be used all the time here and would be fun. . and in a manual?!?!

Yeah one of our guys in Sydney has a Crusade. Nice truck!

So my down under is a little rusty, in looking at the webpage is the Crusade targeted more towards the offroad side of it, or is it the more luxurious model?

Pretty sure it is top of the line. When I was there last year I rode in it and it was very much like a Lexus.

I would personally go for an updated 4.6, but a turbo 3.0 or even an updated 1GR would be great as well... as long as they get the transmission right.

Anything but a Tacoma Copy/Paste.

Actually, you can't buy an F150 at all in Australia anymore. They stopped selling them about 10 years ago. There's virtually no market for them down there.

Yeah, the water in mall parking lots does get deep.

See, here's the thing: It's not how many 4Rs would get sold with a bigger engine. It's how many more get sold.

How many ppl that were truly 4R prospective buyers, didn't buy one because of the engine? A few, sure, maybe 1%? Who knows? It's small.

So, does a .5 - 1% (maybe) sales increase justify the engineering/manufacturing and EPA testing and crash testing required?

Nope. Don't think for a minute Toyota hasn't got this figured out down to the last nut and bolt. Would I buy the V8? Hell yeah. But I'm going to buy one regardless - they know this, it's magic.

Realistically? Silly thread.

Of the engines listed, an updated 4.0L V6 would be my preference, but with a 10% bump in power and torque and no fuel mileage penalty.

Definitely isn't the 4.0 V6. Maybe the 4.0 V6 with a small supercharger but would prefer the 4.6L V8

+1 for diesel. Doesn't need to be more powerful than the current engine. Just torquey and with a long range.

Other than that the 3.5 will do.
