7 Degrees and NO HEAT!!!!!!!

I jumped in my truck this morning, started it up, looked at the temp gauge and it said 7 degrees....I said brrrrr and was on my way. Well I waited and waited and the heat never started blowing so I just hit the HI on the fan to take it out of auto mode but nothing happened!

I couldn't get the fan to come on at all. I even turned it off at a light and it still didn't work after I started it up. My fingers are still stiff from cold trying to type this.

I'm Pissed. and cold.

Anybody's fan stopped working before?

I distinctly remember reading a thread where a member recently had his serviced because it froze over. He said there was a TSB on the repair but I've never heard of it before he mentioned it. apparently the blower isn't shielded enough and ice forms around it.
 
ok guys here goes, i had the same exact scenario this morning, The outside temp guage read 8 degrees and even after the truck running (remote start) for 15 minuted, then driving from staten island to edison (10 miles) I had no blower, ( thank god for heated seats ).

So whats the deal with this, any ideas.
I was even going to can my day at work as a service advisor for BMW and take my truck right in. I called my pal at Toyota and then I went out to the truck and the blower is working.

WHATS THE DEAL WITH THIS.....WE ARE SUPPOED TO BE DRIVING THE BEST TRUCK IN THE WORLD........
 
I recently took a trip up to ND where it was -25 and had no problems-THANK GOD. I'll have to keep an eye on it on have it looked at next time I have it into the dealer. Good luck fellas...
 
Well I found the TSB for an '03

Issued: Aug '03

Number: AC003-03

Title: Blower motor ice build-up.

I'm going to take a half-day and a cold ride to the dealer to get this fixed. I can't ride around with no heat in this weather.

Good find Toybox. I would think they would have it fixed for the 04 model though so I don't know why AK602 had an issue. I didn't have a problem and it was about that cold in VA this morning.

Noloc had the same problem with his '04.

What puzzles me is that ice would get into the blower motor area in the first place. Unless it is just frozen condensation from the evaporator....

Maybe if you use defrost for a long time before parking in freezing temperatures can cause this?? I dunno....
 
Good luck getting it fixed right away. Supposedlyu the parts are on back order and I'm still without my baby!@!$!@!$

I took it in this afternoon and told them about the TSB. They looked at it and confirmed that is what it is and told me the parts are on backorder for a MONTH!

They did manage to get the blower working again (or maybe it just defrosted as a coincidence) and asked me if I could park it in a garage until the parts come in. Haha, I'm not going to have much luck telling the wife she has to park the van outside.......sooo I hope to god it does not freeze up again in the next month.

Aron, that is what you get when your truck is surrounded by BMW's all day! I think it is contageous. :D Anyway, did you try to control the fan speed manually? If so, what happened?

That is weird because the TSB is for the 03 models and my heater works within 5 minutes and we had the same weather in NJ!
 
5 degrees and no heat again this morning, of course I was on the phone with the dealer on my way to work......

FYI...

I live in California (No freezing temps) and my blower will not come on until the engine temp reaches a certain temp. It rarely comes on in the morning for about ten minutes during the winter until the engine is warmed up. Or perhaps I have a messed up heater as well!!

Heater works okay here

Webshot - you may have it on auto which will disable the blower until it warms up. If you turn on defrost, or change the fan direction, it should disable auto which will turn on the blower.

Here in MA, it was -2 this morning, and my heater/blower was working fine. I manually turn off the A/C from auto during the really cold weather just to prevent any ice build up in the lines or in the vents/ducts. Not sure if there would be any condensation in the blower motor, but it is possible.

AARRGGHHH.....0 degrees and no heat again. This really sucks!
 
THANK GOD FOR HEATED SEATS, IF YOU PUT THE TEMP ALL THE WAY UP TO MAX AND THE SELECTOR ON VENT SOME WARM AIR WILL FLOW IF YOU ARE AT ANY DECENT SPEED DUE TO THE NORMAL CABIN VENTING, HOWEVER IT DOES NOT DO WHAT THE NORMAL HEAT SHOULD DO.

I AM WAITNG FOR A CALL BACK FROM MY BUDDIE AT TOYOTA

That would be nice if I had them. Then I wouldn't have to drive all crunched over trying to stay warm.

Ya' know a heated steering wheel would be nice too. I have to alternate sitting on one hand and driving with the other and vice versa.
