80 Series LC Rims

Made a road trip up to Logan tonight to pick up a set of 80 series rims. The owner had boughten a spare 80 series that he's slowing parting out to use on his other 80 or selling parts at random. The rims came up the other day for sale and I decided what the hay I'll go for it. So tonight these are sitting in my apartment:

Rim 1 (this was the spare):

Rim 5 (this is the worst of them, pitted and missing a small chunk of metal near the weight)

So right now I'm debating to just clean them up the best I can then go ahead and have them mounted when I get my new tires put on or have them sand blasted then powder coated. The crappiest of the rims may just get used as a spare or I may not do anything with it.

All the tires are 245/75/16 except the spare which is a 265/75/16, three of the tires I plan on keeping and selling (may keep the tire that's on the spare and use that as my spare tire). The other two tires will be trashed, one has a rip in the sidewall.

Poll:
Clean them up and mount them as is
Sandblast and then powder coat (gun metal color, need suggestions on this one if I go this route)

This is one of those what am I thinking moments.

man id love a set of 80 wheels been looking for over a year only a few poped up and wanted well over 300 for the set
 
Nice grab. I'm on the lookout for LC rims too. Too bad no one has a friggin' 80-series around here. I'd say clean em and mount em. And since you only spend 2 bills on the rims, why not PC them if they don't clean up as nicely as you'd like, and sell the 5th to earn a bit of cash back?
 
Nice Grab. I love the simple clean look of those. I would say sandblast and paint (not PC) if you can do it for cheap.

I would say paint, not PC, because you know they are going to get scratched, or corrode, and it will be easier to just repair the paint than repair the PC.
 
Personally I would powder coat them...and not just because thats what I decided to do. I just feel like its a more durable finish...unless you just plan on beating them to death...
 
I say sandblast and teflon coat them! Gunmetal in color, non-stick finish for easy cleaning, win/win/win!

Yeah, the 5 stars looked pretty rough, but $300 for the LC wheels seemed within the normal range... I'd probably offer him $150 and see if he'd go for it, but even at $200 I think the LC wheels would be a deal.

Anyway....... back on topic now. Sandblast and powerdcoat! Wait, I already said that.
 
Sandblast & powdercoat.. good luck picking out a gun metal color...

I got my '06 sport edition wheels coated and there were something like 10 gun metal colors to pick from, but only with online pics (hard to tell true color). I went with "Iron Gun Metal Glimmer," it kinda has a sparkle to it. Similar to some new OEM paint jobs that look like they have a few bits of glitter thrown into the paint mix. It's not sparkly, it just kinda twainkles.

Got the tires and rims separated tonight and got the rims cleaned up a bit.

The look alot better but they will need to be sandblasted.
 
You could powdercoat if you want to spend the money doing it. If you ever scuff them, it will be difficult to fix without removing the tires.
I roughed up my 80 wheels, shot 3 coats of self-etching primer and then 3 coats of duplcolor wheel coating in gunmetal gray. They looked fantastic and held up very well!

Good revival on those rims..post a shot though of the whole truck next time so we could appreciate the LC wheels much more...good work on the paint job.
 
did the same thing with guy couple post up...sand,primer,paint using rustoleum gun metal(metallic).
held up in 3 snow storms,ice and salt....
bought wheels in the same cond't as OP...
btw: if you upgraded to the tundra 231 brakes you'll need to grind very little material off the back of these wheels :)
