85w140 in a transfer case

Hey, I got noisy engagement when in 4wd front shaft makes a quater of a turn and rear shaft almost a half a turn when putting in D or R so it seems like it compensating for a slack in a loose t-case chain with a loud clank. I'm thinking to use 85w 140 for a while until it granades or until I get enough money for a used t-case. Now the question, did anyone use 85w140 in a t-case for a long period of time or will this makes things to fail faster ?

Just to dampen the noisy engagement, it would stop bothering me. If it drives for another 50k with this problem without making noises I would be happy.

What are you using in it right now? I'm running 85-140 in my front/rear because that's what ECGS recommended when I got my gears done but I haven't decided if I want to get away from the mobil 1 synthetic in the transfer case yet.

I don't think it would dampen the noise that much if at all, but maybe possible, but it could also make it grenade faster as well.

I think you should contact a remanufacturer and ask them what they think.IMHO

I used OEM gear oil last time that I did all of my fluids. Today I used 75w140 full synthetic mixed with some Lucas oil stabilzer additive like 250ml at most on the total of 2L of gear oil. I can't remember the brand of gear oil. I will take a picture tomorrow. So far it's less noisy. Also I didn't see any filings or chunks of gears etc when I drained the old fluid today, color wasn't too happy though, especially for only 10k since last oil change.

I used to be a tech for 10 years with Mercedes Benz Canada. Sure, I'm either in North York during the day or Mississauga after work.
