86 4runner restoration

Found her sitting under a tree for 5 years..all worn out.

Beginning of stripping.

A340H to be converted to A340F.

Damaged 22RE.. Piston broken. I replaced engine

Original shifters replaced with 90-95 2WD shifter

Overhauled and modified A340 Transmission using Inchworm adaptor and gear driven Transfer case

Front shaft has to be lengthened and rear shortened as tranny is now at least 6 in longer.

Getting ready for bodywork.

Off to body shop

Shifter modification.

Paint done

Windshield installed with rubber moulding.

Soft topper install

Door panels repaired.

Repainted with new decals

Replaced the Engine

92 2WD 4Runner shifter and center console.

I just got a vinyl shop to cut them to fit in the space required Silver and Gold Vinyl with the correct font. The pillars were cleaned and painted in flat black then decals applied.

Spent 7 grand on it so far!!! Paint, transmission, Soft topper, engine and interior work including orig cost of truck. It's running on left over 2011 Tacoma 16in Wheels..freebie.

It takes a lot to do it right. I reached that point, before the 5k I dropped on the 1uz conversion. I'm sitting at roughly 10,500 currently in all my parts and restoration.

Love it. Love how you reapplied the original stripes. The attention to detail is awesome. I picked up some Stripes ( i went for the Gold vertical Stripes ) and am getting a white softtop next month for a future build too. I was looking at white colors just yesterday and thought about going for current 'Toyota Crystal Pearl' rather than the original white. Did you go with Original Toyota white ?

Yes it's the original color..kind of off White. Looks much better than pure white. Kind of a mix of desert tan and white.

Figure the OP got them from the same place I did.

It's amazing how small the 1st gen 4Runner actually is compared to the other models..it's even smaller than my 2002 Camry!!!!

I must say the Transfer Case conversion does make this truck more alive!!!

Tell me about it....I'm 6'5"! I've been thinking about moving my drivers seat back about 3 inches and drilling new holes.

Absolutely beautiful... but I do have one question: Why the 2WD "Honda Civic" shifter knob? The 4WD "pistol grip" just seems so much "tougher" looking.

But I won't totally dwell on shifters... your truck is way cleaner than mine!

Because the tranny has been modified and is longer the 4WD Shifter is further back. The regular 4WD shifter with console won't look good..in those mode
S the shifters are side by side. This setup looks cleaner..doesn't it??? Lol
