86 RTE value?

I have a chance to buy an 86 4Runner with a 22r turbo in it for 1200. It's in pretty good shape with just under 200K and needs a head job - not hard to do. Looks like it's all there and its a New Mexico truck so there is no rust whatsoever. Even has the origional exhaust.

I know these things are pretty rare but my question is do you guys think it's rare enough to be worth the trouble? I know I can buy it and have it back on the road for under 2500.

200K on the turbo unit is a lot for those. Make really sure it is in good shape.

I will. Any idea if they make a rebuild kit for that turbo?

Toyota never did, they just sold a complete new unit,
Then there was a guy that would rebuild them, but i don't know if he's still around.
There is also a hybrid T2/T3 or something that can be gotten.
Do a little research, and check out the yahoo group, I think called 22rte trucks.

I would go to Toyota Supra forum and search for turbo rebuild shop. I had a Supra 10 years ago and paid $800 to shop that rebuilds truck turbos without researching it. Then people on the forum told me that I can find a place to do it for $400. Good luck.
