Another big question is it doesn't have the original title, so I don't know what kind of hassles I'll run into in another state down the road.

Ugh, I've played that game. Wasn't fun feeling my way through it for the first time, but it's actually pretty easy in this state. They just take their sweet time doing the research to determine if it's stolen or not.

GA actually does that as well, although I think '85 is the newest they allow. Yes, that would cover mine, but I'll have to see if those like, say, CO allow it. I know from recent experience that they didn't like salvage titles, so I have my suspicions about having no title at all.

I built this 4runner originally and made a huge mistake last year and sold it. I have gone through a few different 4runners and finally bought this one back. This one was the original beast that got me into the classic 4runners. I never should have sold it and it is definitely here to stay.

Yes, my very first 4runner was an 03 4runner. That was traded in for a 2010 tundra after I got my 87. With me and vehicles, don't ask. In the past 10 years I have probably gone through over a dozen different vehicles. I am too impulsive at times.

Wife is pissed that I bought the 89 4runner, then spent nearly 4k on it! she thinks I wont keep it.

In the last 22 years, Ive owned (not jointly,just my rigs):

4- 70's chevy luvs (1 had a 350 in it),

1- 78 monte carlo,
1- Mayers Manx,
1 Avenger GT40 kit car,
4 baja bugs,
1 Chenowth Sandrail,
5- 60's VW bugs,
1- 57 oval VW window bug,
1- 65 bug on moded chevy chassis w/383 stroker,
2- 87 suzuki samurais,
2 honda civics (1 was a CRX),
1- 99 Subaru legacy 2.5 GT,
10- motorcycles,
87 toyota 4x4 pu,
89 DLX SR5 toyota 4x4 pu,
(im sure Ive forgotten some)

& hopefully the latest is the 89 SR5 4runner........ I always do a bunch of work to my rigs & regret selling at least half of them!

Time for an update. It's a small update but any update in this thread is good progress!

My rear brakes weren't the best and the e-brake wasn't holding for anything.

Maybe this could have been a part of the problem?


The pads had tons of life and the drums were great as well. So they needed to be cleaned, springs and hardware replaced and adjusted. I also replaced both cylinders as well.

Now:


The rear brakes operate much smoother! I need to completely delete the lspv since I got rid of the sensing rod from the axle a while back. The e-brake is better and moves freely but it still doesn't hold all that well. I adjusted the star nut inside the drums till the pad hit the drum then backed it off about a turn or so. I also adjusted the e-brake adjustment point in front of the gas tank. The e-brake handle is extremely stiff at 10 clicks and is well within the specs but the e-brake still doesn't hold as well as I would like. I think I need to get off my arse and just do the xfer case ebrake kit.
