88 heater fan problem..

I have a 88 3.0 and the heater switch has been acting funny. When you cut it on quick to level four, the heater only cuts on to level two. Then ill b driving and all the sudden the heat will cut up to level four. It also will cut back to level two...heater doesnt get watm until you start driving either, doesnt matter how long you let it run. Any ideas where to start troubleshooting? Thanks

sounds like the switch is bad.

also, it not heating up is a separate issue, id check the coolant level, it may be low.

Or somebody put it back together without a thermostat would be my guess. That and the switch.
