My 88 22re is having a few problems- on start up it runs fine, by after about 2 minutes it idles very rough. Also spits and sputters when accelerating, and the temp is unstable. I thought it might be fuel or ignition but not sure after he overheating problem. Any help would be much appreciated.

Go through all the standard stuff first then reply if they don't fix it.
1. spark plugs
2. spark wires
3. ignition module
4. engine timing
5. Fuel filter

check all these items if you need direction on how to check them consult the factory service manual, if you dont have it then you need to get it there are many sites that offer it free.

Thanks, I grabbed a new fuel filter as it seems to be the Most likely villain at the moment- only problem is it seems like it's going to be a huge pain to get to it. Plus now my transmission is actin funky. I'm hoping it just needs some fluid rather than a new clutch.

I also adjusted the idle screw after installing the new filter, and the rpms are much more acceptable. Unfortunately I just found a fuel leak so it's back to the garage.
