Just got my 89 3.0 running. Head gasket ,timing belt all that good stuff. Fired right up but there was a real load clicking noise coming from the cap. Doing just a visual I found that the #6 wire input was cracked no biggie I'll get it home ( 30 miles ) ran like a champ except for the clicking in the cap. Went to Napa auto yesterday got a new cap and rotor. I pulled the old one off and I looks like the rotor was jammed into the center contact point. The clicking was the rotor eating the cap. New cap and rotor do not fit. 1/8 in gap from cap to distributor. Wrong cap and rotor or did we install the distributor wrong? We never removed the distributor from the cam while we were doing everything else. Any thoughts? Thanks damn thing purrs like a kitten Im ready to roll!!!
Thanks for any help!!!!

I went every auto parts store around my house. Napa, O'riley, and they all gave me the some product. I even had them look up different years and even different models that used the 3.0. All the same set up. This 89 is really baffling me. Everything looks like it is all original but Ive had to get some parts for different year runners. Like the brakes I had to go all the way back to 87 for those. Anyway I ended up shimming the cap with some small washers until I got the right height. Runs like a champ. Works for now. Thanks for the response.
