Actually, the 1JZ-GTE came with twin turbos and the VVT-i version came with the Single turbo. The Single turbo VVT-i 1JZ eliminated the twin turbo's lag thanks to the variable valve timing and the marvelous CT-26 turbo. Also, the twins had their share of problems with leaking oil seals and a stupid Y pipe design that made it ridiculous to upgrade or even work on.
The Skyline has its excellent gadgetry, but the Supra is a honest-to-god sports car with a motor capable of 1,000+hp with stock internals (2JZ) 600+hp (7M). The V160 getrag 6spd is a beast of a gearbox and Toyota's stout G series diff is one hell of a rear end to reckon with. But I'll take a Supra for obvious reasons. And the Supra-charged Cressida follows

Old thread. I had to go with the Supra, because they just speak to me.
I sure wouldn't kick a Skyline out of bed for eating crackers, though, those are sick cars too.

Of the two choices the OP asked about, I'd keep looking and take a 3rd gen Mazda RX-7 (FD3S).
50/50 weight dist. endless possibilities for more HP, LIGHTWEIGHT, and arguable the best looking Japanese car ever produced. Plus the hella-flush dorifto dorks are wrecking them by the dozen, so they're getting more and more rare. A nice one can be had for around 15k these days.

I'm gonna have to say R34 its just a bit more controable because of the AWD the supra is an animal in a good way that is both great cars thought

The MKlV Supra and the R34 Skyline are both amazing machines! I have been a big fan of Nissan for a while because I used to own an '89 240 SX before I got my '87 RX-7 and loved it, I also love the whole line of Z's Silvia's and skyline's as well. But, my dream car for a very long time has actually been the MKlV Supra:boink: I think the design is just beautiful, it has a very strong 6 speed trans and you can't beat the 2JZ-GTE! What a beast of a motor! Bullet proof internals and capable of insane 1000+ hp #'s with stock bottom end! Don't get me wrong, the RB26-DETT is also a stout motor capable of similar hp #'s, but it is not quite as reliable as the 2JZ. The R34 does have AWD and so that's one area where it would outshine the Supra, whether it be on on the turns a road course or getting traction for acceleration. That being said, The Supra is my obvious pick, not only because it is my dream car, but I love the 2JZ engine, the interior and beautiful body lines!
