94 4runner tensioner

I am replacing the heads on my 94 4runner. I have screwed in a new tensioner but I cannot put the fan cover on. Is there some trick to putting in the tensioner to the fan cover can fit?

I'm guessing 3.slow and I just put a new fan and shroud on now problem and even got the shroud on without timing the fan off

Did you depress the tensioner plunger and lock it back with an allen wrench through the hole? Should bolt right on when it is locked back, then you can pull the allen wrench out to set the plunger.

Is it the same style tensioner that you took off? ( spring or hydraulic ) The covers will fit one or the other but not both.

Its about as safe as any 20 year old SUV is...
