Hey guys newbie here, i have a 94 Runner with 200k miles on her, well about a month ago i ran out of gas and after that it now runs like crap. i had a Compression test done on it and it said that 3 of my cyl. have no compression. i also found gas/oil in my intake manifold.. i would like to know what i can do to fix it? or what you guys think is wrong with it? thanks

It started to knock after i did the compression test.. before that it ran like a champ. also, the plugs are shot. am going to replace the cap, wires and plugs soon, i'm a little worried because a friend of mine told me that i may need to replace the whole engine
p.s. also found out that its only 2 cyl's that dont have compression lol

i have a 92 and same thing happened to me. i ran out of gass and what i think happened was just gunk from the gas tank got drug threw it bc i let it get down to running on fumes lol...put some 93 octane in it and some injector cleaner and run it and that should work.

why would clogged injectors cause no compression? like if your injectors got stuck open and you are forcing the air back into the fuel system? if you have no compression in 2 cylinders then maybe blown head gasket, but i dont know why that would have happened from running out of gas. which 2 cylinders are they? are they next to each other?
i was thinking about this more today, and i thought of a couple things. if you want to check to see if your injectors are stuck open, you can get a mechanics stethoscope at like napa or sears (maybe $15) and if you put the end on the injector while the engine is running you should be able to hear the injector clicking. compare the "good" cylinder injectors with the "bad" ones to see if they sound the same (or if 1 isnt even clicking at all). but if thats what happened, then i would wonder how you got oil mixed in with the gas in the intake. maybe your piston rings are worn? it would make sense since you have 200K on that motor, did your truck burn oil before this happened? it still seems odd to me though because you'd think it would be a valve issue if you have gas getting back up into the intake. im a newb on here too, so i dont know much specifically about 4runners yet, but for any type of motor having issues like you have, those are some things i would think about. i guess it depends on how much you want to get into diagnosing, or whether you just want to try some stuff and see if it helps. hope that helps.

First, you will probably always have some fuel and oil in the intake of an older engine. You probably have some blowback caused by worn piston rings, and the extra crankcase pressure (and some oil) will be pulled into the intake by the PCV system. Perfectly normal.
It is also likely that you pulled the dirt, etc. from the bottom of the tank when you ran it dry, and likely clogged some of the fuel system components. Replace the fuel filter as well as running the cleaner as advised. You are probably due anyway.
Third, it is likely that if the cylinder was flooded, say after extended cranking, gasoline in the cylinder can strip the coating of oil between the piston ring and cylinder wall. This will give you a low compression reading. I have tried starting a badly flooded engine and it seems that the engine spins free as a result of this problem.
Finally, and most importantly, if you had no compression in three cyls, there is no way the truck would want to move at all. Not a bit. Try tuning it up and see what happens.

94 V6 engine trouble
im a newbie also, and i have 94 v6, and ive been having the same problems, and with the research that ive been doing, it seems to me that the best solution to this problem is to replace the injectors, but i dont want to do that and have the risk of the problem not being fixed and then being out all the money...just was wondering if this would be the right route to take..?
