What is the best(cost effective) fix for the sagging springs on the Runner? I have seen air bags for a reasonable price. I use my truck as an everyday work truck and I am a carpenter so....you can see the issue ( a lot weight ass end). I have to do some engine work so I am trying to do this relatively cheap for now and make more improvements later on. Any suggestions and help appreciated, Thanx ahead of time!

New OME coils.
Cheap ways are coil spacers (will fix the sag but still ride like crap) or Land cruiser coils (little but of lift)

any idea if there are threads with actual pictures to go with the options? My ass has been saggin so long I can't remember what "stock height" looked like. And as far as an OME 2" coil...I'm not imaginative enough to think how 2 inches above what I can't remember (stock height) will look like. Just a thought

Air bags are an option. You can get stiffer coils, but they'll ride horrible when you're not loaded.
Another option might be load-sensitive shocks? I just bought a set for my explorer, they've got a coilover on the shock absorber that is supposed to only kick in when needed. Dunno if they work as advertised, but it's a thought...

I just got done putting moog springs on. I went this route because 1. its better than spacers. 2. I didnt want to have to put extended shocks and go too far the opposite direction with a nose down ride so i stayed away from ome's lift springs. 3. they are thicker than oem springs so you get more towing capability which is what i do with my runner.
check out the write up and ask any questions you have. I did the swap in 2 hours. The reassembly was a little difficult but i've got it down now.

1)Moog 225 coil springs(check NAPA or Rockauto, etc..)
2)urethane rear control and lateral arm bushings(Suspension Restoration Parts Co.)
3)shocks-Bilstein or factory
If your putting that kind of weight back there, you might consider the urethane sway bar bushings. That truck must be all over the road. Good luck.

You can always run KYB's, cheaper then the dealer oem, or Bilsteins. Not my favorite shock, but definitely inexpensive. I'd replace the bushings in the control arms before you do shocks. They give you a lot of fix for very little $. It's the springs and bushings that really make the sag. Our truck immediately raised up after doing the bushings, as well as with the Moog units.

Aren't the control arms up front though? He's asking about the ass sag. Any recommendations for a site that makes the bushings? I've seen a couple...energy suspensions being one.
Some 4runner's have rear control and lateral arms, whereas the really early units have leaf springs in the rear. They make urethane bushings for both styles which I think are a no-brainer. There are front control arms, but they are a bit tougher to DIY. I've done ours, and it involves pulling the torsion bars. It is worth replacing the ball joints if your going to go into do the task, or at least that would be my recommendation.
