I am the original owner of my Japanese-built 1995 4Runner 3.0-L 2WD. After 18 years and reaching 475,000, I decided to replace my engine because I was burning a lot of oil, losing horsepower and experiencing a decrease in gas mileage. I recently did an engine swap (same engine) and have replaced most of the other engine components with new OEM parts, including two of the four main engine wire harnesses.
About 4 weeks ago, I went to my local Toyota dealership and ordered the last remaining engine harness that was available, part no. 82121-35253 ENGINE ROOM MAIN WIRE, which includes Relay Block #2 (see diagram below). The other day I was told this part is no longer available (worldwide), and they refunded my money.
The parts guy searched the Toyota database and found that there are a few ENGINE ROOM MAIN WIRE harnesses available for the American-built 3.0-L 2WD 4Runner, but he is not sure if it will fit or work with my Japanese-built model. I've scoured the Internet looking for some answers, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Do you have any knowledge about this? Are the wire harnesses the same? If not, do you know which wires/fuses are different? Could it be modified to work with my Japanese-built model? The part is about $450, so I've got to try to get as much info as possible before I make the decision to buy it or not.
